Management Report on Bighorn Sheep in Baja California
Editor Note: In the June 2011 issue of The Hunting Report, we told you that Baja California will reopen to hunting for desert bighorn sheep, perhaps as early as late 2011, certainly by early 2012. We got that directly from Chairman of the Desert Bighorn Council and former director of the Wild Sheep Foundation, Ray Lee. Lee provided the following reports on efforts made in Baja California to demonstrate that the bighorn sheep population is stable and growing, and able to support a sport hunting program that would in turn benefit sheep conservation and the local communities. The first is on a workshop on sustainable management, the second is on the recent population surveys that were conducted. Lastly, is an obituary Lee has provided for famous sheep guide Pancho Lopez.
