Vast Places. From the Kalahari Desert to the grasslands of Caprivi, Namibia has a lifetime of hunting options. It’s a particular favorite of subscribers for plains game in iconic settings, and enjoying Southern Africa’s unbelievable hunting lodges with all the trimmings.
“Reminds me of parts of New Mexico,” says A. Feltenstein (10931) of plains game-rich Ehirovipuka Conservancy in Namibia, where he hunted with Jamy Traut Hunting Safaris. “High desert, and completely empty of people. I had the fortune of being guided by Traut, and we took eight animals in nine days, including kudu and gemsbok, passing on many others.”
“A family operation that makes the hunter feel at home,” says E. Zelanko (10944) of Khomas Highland Hunting Safaris. “Concessions vary from the edge of the Kalahari to the mountains of the Khomas Highlands. Hunted abundant game at Khomas, including Cape eland, and saw rhino and leopard. Perfect for novice or seasoned hunter.”
A fantastic first Africa hunt for J. Spitler (10909), who took kudu, oryx and more with Thormahlen & Cochran Classic African Safaris’ PH Chris Joubert on the Anabeb Conservancy. “As a veteran of a number of ‘you should have been here last week’ hunting and fishing trips, this exceeded my expectations. A lot of care taken with the details, and many great stalks on trophy game.”
Beyond taking leopard with his rifle, P. Pare (10873) went all out on a bow hunt with PH Werner Rogl of Otjiruze Safaris Namibia. “Great safari, stalking plains game with the Rogl brothers and getting in close to take 16 bow trophies and two rifle trophies. Great results from this auction hunt!”
“10 African safaris, and this is the best property I have hunted for plains game,” say A. Adkins (10644) of his trip with Eden Hunting. “Wish my first hunt had been here. They did a great job with my youngest son (age 10), who did most of the hunting. Great camp to boot.”
More Reports Roundup
Hunting Report subscribers are the most adventurous and well-traveled group of folks in the hunting world, and we are here to cover all of their adventures. Here’s a roundup of some recent reports that you won’t want to miss...
North America. T. Kelsey filed two reports on hunts with guides Chris McKinnon and Scott Toner of McKinnon and Company Outfitters/Bonnet Plume Outfitters. The first is for a Dall sheep hunt in the Yukon (10923). “I have hunted with Chris McKinnon, owner of Bonnet Plume Outfitters, six years in a row. I have harvested six Dall sheep. I don’t measure, but all were great trophies averaging 12 1/2 years old.” Kelsey and a friend also hunted black bear in Alberta with McKinnon (10924). “We saw lots and lots of bears. I took a B&C animal, and my hunting partner got a great bear as well. Fun trip, with excellent guides!”
Africa. G. Lewis (10936) couldn’t be happier with a successful hunt for zebra duiker in Liberia with Morris Dougba’s Liberia Rainforest Safaris. “Not a hunt for sissies, this is like the old days of walking everywhere. Great staff and guides.” Lewis took Maxwell, bay and black duiker as well.
Elsewhere. Two pigeon shoots: J. Kelly (10925) found “millions” of birds in Bolivia with Wingshooting Safaris de Bolivia Amazonica. “Outstanding shooting at the lodge. I’ve been hunting nearly 80 years now, and this is a perfect trip for any age.” D. Butler (10926) visited Uruguay with Luis Brown’s River Plate Outfitters for dove, pigeon and perdiz. “Wonderful country to see, and many birds to shoot. My second hunt with the extended Brown family, who are great outfitters.”
