CANADA CARIBOU ROUNDUP
Woodlands and Barren Grounds. With the sad demise (at least for now) of Quebec caribou hunting, hunters must look elsewhere for the thrills of hunting herds in the forest and tundra of the north. Fortunately subscribers have explored plenty of other options, and we have the reports to help you find the right hunt.
“Experiencing the arctic in one of the most interesting and beauitful places I’ve seen,” made for a “high adventure” caribou hunt for A. Biondich (10729) in Nunavut with Canada North Outfitting. “The guides were incredibly proficient in this unforgiving environment, and I was able to look at over 100 caribou before taking a big bull.” R. Duhadaway (10402) also hunted caribou with Canada North. “Boy it was cold (40 below), but that made it interesting. Great experience riding the sleds.”
E. Meis (10736) took a 36-point caribou in Newfoundland with guide Eddie Abbott of Efford’s Hunting Adventures. “Caribou were in full rut early October and I saw great numbers. Bob Efford can move hunters in his plane if need be. True professionals, 100% on caribou.”
Says J. Toddy (10725), “I’ve been wanting to hunt mountain caribou for years, and finally went with Fire Mountain Outfitters’ Brandon Ponath in BC.” Toddy hunted from two spike camps accessed by horse. “Game rich area with great moose and caribou. Ponath has amazing eyes, and I can’t recommend his outfit enough.”
M. Davis (10671) took B&C mountain caribou and moose in the Yukon with Anchor Bar Expeditions. “We saw a lot of great caribou bulls and moose. A scenic area with a great team in camp. Everything went perfectly on this hunt.”
M. Coelho (10471) got a top 50 B&C caribou with Yukon Big Game Outfitters. “Good age class of animals let me pass on several mature bulls to find a record-class animal. This hunt has it all, with a great guide in a prime area.”
More Reports Roundup
Hunting Report subscribers are the most adventurous and well-traveled group of folks in the hunting world, and we are here to cover all of their adventures. Here’s a roundup of some recent reports that you won’t want to miss...
North America. New Mexico is a favorite for G. Gibbons (10813), who hunted mule deer with Steve Pecos of Darryl Stuart Outfitting. “It was too warm and the bucks weren’t moving, but this was obviously perfect habitat. Any hunt with Pecos is guaranteed to be a special adventure.”
Africa. A visit to KonKomberi in Burkina Faso proved fruitful for M. Jones (10806). “PH François Guillet is the man, seeing opportunities where others might see difficulties. Hunting buff by tracking only is a grand experience. Good numbers of buffalo and roan.”
Elsewhere. R. Matyas (10797) hunted Pakistan for Himalayan ibex with Pir Danish Ali of Indus Safaris. “Travel on the Silk Road and harrowing hunting made this trip one of my all-time best. Danish is well-connected and knows the game inside and out. I took a great ibex without the need for long-range shooting, which isn’t for me.”
