The Hinge of Africa. Cameroon lies at the crux of Western and Central Africa, offering diverse game in terrain that ranges from jungle rainforests to arid savannah. Those of our subscribers who have ventured to Cameroon have consistently found unique and challenging hunting, particularly for big Lord Derby eland.
“This is one of those experiences that should be a part of every hunter's career,” say Brian and Denise Welker (9650) of their Cameroon hunt with Dave Rademeyer's Nothern Operations Africa, PH Ivan Carter. Both took eland over 50 inches. “Lord Derby and kob were everywhere. The buffalo have wised up considerably by the end of the season.” Molly Millis Hedgecock (9606) had Rademeyer as her PH, “taking a magnificent eland after six days of tracking. Great challenge and tough hunt, as expected, with incredibly hardworking PH and trackers.”
With Mayo Oldiri Safaris PH Pavel Martinez, Jim Gross (9608) got in close to his quarry. “Great shooting at close range, 60 yards for Lord Derby, and 10 yards for West Savannah buffalo.” Gross also took a potential top 10 kob. Jorge Garcia-Segovia (9149) and Mayo Oldiri PH Guy le Bohec took an elephant, as well as forest game. “Very tough hunt in the jungle, great area for elephant.”
Michael Benben (9101) was ecstatic about his hunt with Faro East. “This is the concession and the team if you want Lord Derby eland, western roan, or west savannah buffalo. Anti-poaching teams have allowed the game to explode. First place I have ever hunted a second time!” Finally, Pepe Marti (9023) tells us he has found the spot for korrigum with Club Faune. “This is the spot to go. Club Faune's concession has 10 licenses and plenty of korrigum. There are practically too many animals here! It's difficult to stalk because you always find another animal to spoil your hunt.” It doesn't sound like Marti is complaining. Go hunt Cameroon!

Surfin' Safari. If hunting is your idea of a perfect getaway, go on a safari in Hawaii! It should be no surprise that wherever our subscribers go, they find some time to hunt, even if they are in the middle of a sunny vacation. Hawaii hunts make for an excellent side trip, according to Greg Schubert (8694), who hunted sheep and feral goat with guide Kevin Nakamaru of Pat Fisher's Hawaii Safaris on the Big Island. “Very low pressure, fun hunt with quality game animals. Was able to sneak off for a couple days while the family toured beaches and volcanoes.” Tom Moore (9016) hopped a ferry from Maui to hunt axis deer on Lanai with Pat Fisher. “Very large area with free-range axis deer. The deer were literally moving everywhere after a rainstorm blew in, it was like watching impala herds in Africa. If you are taking a vacation or business trip to Hawaii you need to be talking to Pat Fisher. He left no question unanswered.” Tom Harrison (9247) also hit Lanai with Hawaii Safaris. “Free-range axis deer and mouflon while staying at a gorgeous Four Seasons resort. Great price on this hunt.”
We also have two enthusiastic reports on Rodney Perreira's Maui Hunting Safaris. Phillip Scott (9244) hunted Maui with Perreira, taking a big feral goat. “Huge 23,000 acre area, lots of opportunity to be selective on size and color. Remarkable place to hunt, volcanic mountain sloping to a grassy meadow above the ocean. Great for either experienced or beginning hunters, and very convenient for a day trip.” John Doughty (9585) took feral goat and axis deer with Perreira. “Hunting two gold medal animals while overlooking the Pacific. Perreira is fun to hunt with.” So, if the waves on Maui are a little too “radical” for your tastes, a volcano hunt might be more your style. Aloha, dudes!

Revisiting Spain, Part Two. As promised, here is the second part of our Spain roundup, where we delve further into the Spanish hunting scene. Quick reminder: Any hunter planning a trip to Spain will want to look through our database, where you'll find useful, detailed information on dozens of hunts around the country. No need to go it alone!
A number of outfitters in Spain are equipped to guide big multi-species hunts. Toquero Hunting took John Searles (9633) to six different areas for six trophies, including Balearean boc and four ibex subspecies. “Juan Toquero has extensive, quality areas all over Spain, in many of which he is the sole operator. He is a master of all aspects of hunting in Spain, right down to his choice of wines.” Marwan Kheireddine (9534) says that Giuseppe Carrizosa of Giuseppe Carrizosa Spain delivered a personalized hunt in multiple areas. “Took Gredos several years back, and wanted to hunt the remaining three types in four days. Carrizosa delivered flawlessly. People in the villages where he hunts know and respect him, and help him find the required trophies.” Tom Harrison has filed two reports (9579 and 9545) on his hunts with guide Juan Mitjans of Fernando Saiz-Spain. He took ibex, mouflon, fallow deer and boar. “Abundant quality of game combined with personal guided tours of Spain at no extra cost made this one of the best hunt trips I've ever taken. Hunting, food, lodging and hospitality were amazing.”
Thinking of bowhunting in Spain? John Monnin (9649) got within range of a nice Beceite with Salvafor guide Salva Monforte. “I normally like physically challenging backpack hunts; this hunt was not physically hard, but I fell in love with the people and the country. Beautiful countryside, and Salva and his crew have a passion for people and hunting.” Mike Axelrad (9634) enjoyed “taking a super gold medal roe deer in driving rain” with his bow, hunting with Giuseppe Carrizosa. “Highly recommend for those looking for high-scoring trophies.”
