Major Game Animals Taken: Bear, Black - Availability: Abundant - Trophy Size: Six-and-a-half feet, 19 inches-plus skull. (Waiting on taxidermist measurements). Game Sought But Not Taken: Game Condition Comments: Saw on average seven to eight bears each day, which was lower than normal due to heavy rain, fog and limited visibility. Saw mature bears each day, only one "rubbed" bear. Great bear habitat.

Problems of Hunt: Rain, more than normal even for Vancouver Island. Highlights of Hunt: Turning down easy archery shots at P & Y boars, because I wanted a real monster. Equipment Recommendations: If you hunt with bow or rifle, be patient, long shots aren't necessary, Would You Recommend This Hunt to a Friend? Yes Why? As close as you can get to a guaranteed opportunity with rifle or bow. Lots and lots of bears, friendly people.

Major Game Animals Taken: Bear, Black - Availability: Abundant - Trophy Size: Hide squared six feet two inches. Skull size estimated at 18 1/2 inches. Game Sought But Not Taken: Game Condition Comments: Note: This was an archery spot and stalk hunt. One could have taken a much bigger bear with a rifle. Lots of bears, plenty of boars in the 6 1/2 foot to seven foot range. I took my bear late the last evening after numerous stalks being messed up by swirling winds, body angles that were no good for bow and arrow or bears just wandering off. I had a great time and plan to return!

SUMMARY REMARKS

Problems of Hunt: Weather. A very late spring after a severe winter. Many bears still denned up. I still saw an average of 7-8 bears a day. It rained every day. Highlights of Hunt: While stalking a boar, he decided to walk down the trail I was stalking up. I froze so he wouldn't see me, and he came to within five yards before smelling me and spooking! Equipment Recommendations: Knee rubber boots if you will be hunting the coast. Would You Recommend This Hunt to a Friend? Yes Why? I would absolutely recommend the hunt.

Saw lots of bears, mature six boars seen every day. Saw six different bears in the seven foot' class. Also saw a lot of elk (Roosevelts). Spot and stalk hunting from boats or trucks (on logging roads), no baiting.
