Problems of Hunt: We were originally booked to hunt the Arda concession in the Save...then all hell broke loose, so Alistair switched us to Sango concession...this too was taken over, by the black government initiative of 2012 Highlights of Hunt: Alistair came through with flying colors!!!! He was so incredible, and especially after hearing all the bad stories of people losing their hunts...we had a 10 out of 10 hunt!! Johnny Hulme is a serious elephant hunter and has taken many outstanding bulls. We hunted the Mahenye area of south east Zimbabwe that borders Mozambique and Gona-re-zhou national park. The area is in a CAMPFIRE area and is inhabited by tribes people. We would wait along various parts of the border in the evenings for the elephant to feed out and again in the morning to catch them going back into the park. Elephant movement was mainly at last light and at sunrise. In the 2 weeks I was there, I saw 3,000 elephant. A lot of cows, calves, and young bulls, but not a lot of older bulls. I was fortunate to take a huge bull on the 4th day of the hunt that went 76x72 with 6'9" and 6'7" tusks. It had an abnormally large nerve in the tusks which decreased the weight significantly. The hunter before me did not score which left an additional tag. We hunted for another 12 days and did not see another bull over 50 pounds. There are big elephant there, but as with all trophy hunting, there are not a lot of big ones. If you are willing to work hard and hopefully have some luck on your side, there is the possibility of shooting a big elephant. There is very little plains game, making the area primarily an elephant hunt only. I would hunt elephant again with Johnny anytime as he is a great guy and a dedicated hunter.

The other was 74 inch tusks and 65 pounds each. Also took 57 inch kudu and 17 inch Limpopo bushbuck bull. Kudu with a frontal brain shot and bushbuck with side brain shot.

Zimbabwe is wonderfull, we had no problems at all this year or last year, The economy is bad, but the people are the most friendly and helpfull in all of Africa. I took my 22 year old son last year and will take my wife on my next hunt to Zimbabwe. I have had the good fortune to hunt with some great outfitters but none better than John and his company! In his areas you can hunt free ranging trophy quality big game, while you stay in first class lodges or camps. On some days we saw close to 400 buffalo many over 40" while I was in one area of 80,000 acres, another hunter was north of us in an area of 120,000 acres hunting buffalo I had the chance to visit his camp it was Super and see his 48" buffalo, We saw lots of elephant and black rhino, loads of plains game!
