The deer herd is as good as there is in SW texas. Numbers and quality continue to improve as i have hunted with WSI on this ranch 3 of the past 4 years. We observed 7 bucks in 5 days that we estimated to be 170" B&C or better. We took a 195" buck and a 177" buck....

Problems of Hunt: Highlights of Hunt: Again, the quality of this outfitter is exceptional. No wasted time with organizational issues which allowed for maximum hunting time. The ultimate highlight of my hunt was watching my hunting partner make a long stalk and successfully arrow a buck that had been prescouted and identified prior to our arrival. It took us several days to find the deer, but we knew what we were looking for and once we found him, we were able to execute a succesful stalk and get him in the cooler. Equipment Recommendations: Would You Recommend This Hunt to a Friend? yes Why? Professional is the best word to sum up the WSI operation. Guides, cooks, facilities, equipment, planning, and execution were all well organized and executed. Prescouting and the organizations enthusiam for making certain their clients have an enjoyable experience are the cornerstones of my recommendation for this outfitter, regardless of the particular hunt they are offering. These folks are professionals and it is obvious they take great pride in running a top tier business. The results speak for themselves.

Problems of Hunt: Highlights of Hunt: Harvested the biggest whitetail since I have been hunting. (40 years). In addition, all of our party of 4 harvested nice deer. Problems of Hunt: None - other than that the good rains made the South Texas brush very green and lush, so visibility was somewhat decreased. Highlights of Hunt: Seeing many, many scimitar horned oryx, nilgai and Kafue lechwe, plus hogs and javelinas in addition to the eland. Equipment Recommendations: Would You Recommend This Hunt to a Friend? yes Why? The games ability to elude hunters. The habitat here is fantastic, looks very much like places I've hunted in Botswana and Zambia. Plus very high numbers of game.

I highly recommend the outfitter/ranch especially for scimitar horned oryx, nilgai and Kafue lechwe. They have many animals and superior trophy quality plus the best trophy fees for nilgai and oryx anywhere in Texas. In addition, Punta Del Monte is a pleasure to hunt, no stands, blinds or feeders, just spot and stalk from the vehicle and on foot. The accommodations were just right - very comfortable but not fancy. I will defintiely return to hunt here again.

Alot of Tropht whitetail deer but you really have to hunt them. We actually had to rattle mine up this year as the acorn crop was abundant and the deer were not moving alot.

Problems of Hunt: None really, hunting was tougher this year due to huge acorn crop and full moon--but we hunted hard and got a nice trophy buck. They did have someone there taking a management deer and I felt that should have been done at another time as it limited the areas we could hunt and this person took the entire week to take his management deer. Highlights of Hunt: Most exciting hunt. Got down to the last afternoon and we had not seen but one good shooter--on first day and I passed as I was hunting by myself. However we rattled up a great trophy buck at 1 pm on the last day and it was so exciting. Equipment Recommendations: Would You Recommend This Hunt to a Friend? yes Why? Great place to hunt, alot of deer with a reasonable chance to get a buck in the 150 to 170" range. You can hunt from blinds or rattle bucks up if rut is in. Great camp and accomodations, excellent food, relaxed atmosphere, top notch guides.

Even with that, the guides still got all of us on very nice mule deer.

GAME DESCRIPTION

Major Game Animals Taken: Pronghorn - Availability: Average - Trophy Size: 14 inches. Sheep, Aoudad - Availability: Abundant - Trophy Size: 27 inches. Game Sought But Not Taken: Game Condition Comments: The ranch held good counts of aoudad. The day before my arrival, a hunter got a 34 incher out of a herd of over 100. The ranch is well maintained for wildlife.
