Condition Comments: |
I felt I was in old east Africa: Herds of wildebeest, herds of impala, herds of blesbok, herds of springbok. One time we stopped the truck for at least 5 minutes as herds of animals ran across the road. The animals are all in excellent shape and breeding with babies. Even the Rhino's had babies. |

| Highlights
of Hunt: |
The rhino dart hunt was the most exciting, heart pounding, unforgettable experience I have had hunting. Crawling within 25 yards of 3 massive rhino's, darting it, chasing it, then being able to touch it, hear it breathing, watching the veterinarian do her work, then giving the antidote and watching this beast get up and trot off...it was the highlight of my hunting career. Having my son (14 yrs old ) hunt and shoot a top record book steinbok. then both of us shooting wildebeest. My best shot ever: 395 yards, prone position. |
| Equipment
Recommendations: |
My son used a Ruger .243. He can shoot better than me! It's light, easy to shoot and puts the animals down. Used Barnes X bullets. Browning 7mm Remington magnum Barnes X bullets |
| Would You
Recommend This Hunt to a Friend? |
yes |
| Why? |
Bring family. The amount of animals seen is unbelievable. It's fun to be hunting in the bush and come across rhinos feeding. They are also a breeding facility for white lions...feeding time is scary! Do a darted rhino hunt, then hunt some plains game. You'll have a blast with life long memories! |

It's beautiful country! It's wide open here. The shots are long: 200 yards easy. The animals are spooky and it's not easy hunting. But there are literally herds of animals. The housing is modest...not luxury. Farm house style, but comfortable. The meals were the best...fantastic...and plenty. Wine was plentiful and good selections. They never ate before 7 or 7:30..sometimes as late as 8pm. When we wanted to go out at night for porcupines, they would not change the meal times...so, rigid in that respect. They had heating pads on the beds...it was wonderful. The nights were cold and the beds were heated! Our guide, Ruan was young, energetic, a bit inexperienced, but he would take suggestions readily. Since I've hunted longer than he has been alive, I'd make a stalking suggestion and he was always okay with it. He was up for anything. And he got along well with my 14 year old son. We filmed the entire hunt with Lew Harris safaris. Our cameraman was Ryan. Can't wait to see the entire rhino hunt on film!! The camera man was great!
