My second hunt with Steven (first was for Coues Deer). He and his guides love to hunt and made every effort to make sure I was successful. Saw lots and lots of does; bucks knew how to hide. Three other clients there at the same time also took nice bucks. "Camp" was the Willcox Motel 6. Rooms were a little crowded with 2 hunters' gear, but otherwise fine. It was a treat to end each day with an excellent dinner prepared by Steven's wife at their home. I'm looking for an excuse to go back - maybe archery javelina?

I don't know what would be an abundant or average number of these deer, but we saw a fair number, mainly does, almost always at first light. Bucks bedded very early. Need real skill with binocular to find these deer once bedded, as they blend perfectly with the gray-brown desert. Steven found my buck the second morning, about a half mile away (I ranged it later!). He was bedded near the top of a hill, in a tiny opening in the brush. All that was visible was the top of his back and the back of his head! We were able to get within 275 yards and waited about 2 hours for him to stand up and offer a shot. Stayed in an RV (trailer) of Steven's in a small campgound in Arivaca. Not luxurious, but comfortable and everything we needed. Way better than a tent! Food had been prepared ahead of time by Steven's wife and frozen or refrigerated. Very good for "camp food"!

Shot a nice deer at 300 yards, difficult shot. We horseback hunted and that the wrangler was very helpful as well. |

Recommendations: |
15x binoculars, tripod for binoculars, sun tan lotion, nose and lip coat. Hat that covers the back of your neck. Bi pod for rifle. Light colored camo, range finder, leather gloves for riding. |

Outfitter put out 100%. Good value for the money most other guys are more money. No language problems. Gun expediter was English speaking and very professional. Including meeting us at the army post for gun check-in at midnight to make sure everything went smoothly. |
