Problems of Hunt: I did not plan enough time for the hunt since I had so many other activities to do in just 10 days. Highlights of Hunt: Zip line and Elephant rides were a big hit with my teenage daughters. Staff very friendly and helpful. Very patient with first time hunter (daughter). This is a great first time Africa hunt. The staff were very professional for me and also very patient and informative for my daughter who had never hunted before. Every animal we collected made the SCI record book except the warthog. So there is an emphasis on collecting trophy quality animals. This group also offered side trips which is perfect for those bringing non-hunting companions. For us it was a the trip of a lifetime!

Nothing exciting. I've been on better. I've been on worse. The stop in Dakar on the way to Johannesburg was bad. They turned off the air conditioning for entire time we were on the ground. It got hot and stuffy. One of the passengers passed out. The rest of the flight was fine. The return trip to Dulles was without incident.

Problems of Hunt: None. Highlights of Hunt: The hunt was fantastic. My Dad, two of my sons, and I were on this hunt. We had a great time. All of us were able to get the animals we wanted and we had a lot of fun doing it. For me, the highlights of the hunt were: Funnest hunt: Zebra. We started out after them and I thought it was going to be quick and easy. Five hours later we had our Zebra. It was cat and mouse the entire time. Driving. Spot and stalk. Tracking. Driving. Hardest hunt: Gemsbok. We also hunted for them for over five hours. Three hours of tracking before we got the shot. Every plant had stickers or thorns. Excellent hunt. Most rewarding: Eland hunt. Five days to find them. Found tracks, then tracking for three miles, spot and stalk, 15 second shot opportunity. Wonderful. For Dad: Elephant rides. For Alecs: Impala hunt, photography, elephant rides. For James: Warthog hunt. Lots of fun watching them and first big game animal taken. Equipment Recommendations: Bring cold weather gear including stocking cap and gloves. It gets cold. It's not as cold as our winters, but when one is used to temps in the 90s, temps in the 30s are COLD. Would You Recommend This Hunt to a Friend? yes Why? Africa is a big game hunter's paradise. The hardest part truly is trying to figure out how to get back. Steffi and Andries Van Wijk will treat you well. Everything about their place (people, service, food, lodging) was excellent. We had a trip with memories to last a lifetime.

My dad, two of my sons (Alecs and James), and I went on this hunt. This was absolutely a fantastic trip. We had the best of times. Hunting, tours, relaxing, eating, and just enjoying life. The hunting is as easy as you want it to be or as hard as you want. We saw plenty of game every day that we were out. We also saw trophy class animals every day. I highly recommend Van Wijk Safaris. The organization is owned by Steffi and Andries Van Wijk. Both Andries and Steffi are professional hunters. They actually met while working for another outfit. Steffi is also a certified tour guide. Elma Van Wijk, Andries' mother, handles all of the tours for Van Wijk Safaris. She is very personable. Actually, we enjoyed being with everyone there at the lodge.
