The caping and care of our trophies was handled by a man introduced as Kelly. We were told he would take care of our skulls and hides. He did too. But what wasn't told to anyone in my group was that he charged for his services. He was taxidermist out of Alberta hired by the outfit to look after the horns/hides. This fact wasn't made known to us until the time to leave. My "bill" was $360 dollars for caping my wolf and caribou skull. It was payable to him if you did not leave it with him to do your taxidermy work. He then told the others that the trophy fee would be waved by NWT since we left the trophies in NWT. Not true, he lied big time, since his shop is in Alberta, my group left their animals with him and had to pay this fee at the NWT Fish and Wildlife. I was so mad at this hidden fee I took my animals to someone in Yellowknife and did not have to pay the trophy fee. The pre-hunt meeting with the head guy and all letters, phone calls and e-mails all failed to mention this extra charge. Out of 10 guys, to a man, none remembers anything said up front about these charges. |

The overall hunt was great, no complaints, enjoyed every minute. The extra charges for caping and trophy care caught us all off guard. While the outfitter was told by the head man at the camp I was in that the taxidermist charges for trophy care was discussed at the pre-hunt meeting in camp. It seems strange that out of 10 men, no one ever heard it mentioned, ever.
