This hunt ranks up there with an African safari. Brenton Hurt knows his hunting area as well as any outfitter I have ever hunted with, actually probably better. The Coburg Peninsula hunt for banteng is an incredible experience and not for the faint of heart. The heat and humidity makes it for a great challenge. You will see banteng. You cannot just drive around and shoot one, you have to get out and walk. The camp is amazing sitting above a beautiful beach with beautiful sunsets in the evening. The buffalo camp is great also. Expect to see hundreds of buffalo each and every day. The difficult part is deciding on which one you want to shoot. Great camp with all the amenities including a washer for your clothes. Excellent opportunity for some great fishing right from the camp. Mary River is another wonderful concession with some great hunting and wonderful people and lodge. I would highly recommend this hunt to anyone.

As a Hunting Report subscriber for years, I value your up to date information and use it in planning my hunts. I am sending a report on an excellent hunt with Brenton Hurt of Territory Buffalo Safaris in Australia's Northern Territory. The hunt was top-notch in all respects and I had no problems of any kind once on my way to Australia. However, I would be remiss not to warn readers about a potential show-stopper problem with Hawaiian Airlines. I initially booked my round trip flight from Honolulu to Sydney on Hawaiian Airlines, as they had very attractive fares. I purchased a non-refundable ticket. Before I did so, I checked the Hawaiian Airlines website to see if there were any words about firearms. I found none. In addition, I had carried firearms to other destinations with Hawaiian on prior occasions. However, I also called Hawaiian and asked about rifle carriage. They indicated that as long as I had legal permission to bring the rifle into Australia, there would be no problem, so I bought the ticket. A week prior to the trip, one of my fellow Hawaii SCI chapter members mentioned that he had seen a note to the effect that Hawaiian would no longer transport firearms to Australia. I went to the airport and after a considerable delay, the supervisor found a memo which did indicate that the Hawaiian Airlines station chief in Sydney had instituted a no-firearms policy, apparently after I had bought my ticket. The memo did show that firearms carriage to other destinations was permitted. The airport personnel advised they could not help and directed me to a number for the Honolulu customer assistance personnel. I found that this office has been moved to Fargo, North Dakota, of all places. I asked for their consideration in either getting the policy changed or in providing a refund and re-booking me. They took the information and said that I would hear from them in 30 business days. This was June 18, one week before my departure for the hunt, and while 30 business days have not yet elapsed, I am still waiting for their reply. I did rebook with Quantas and traveled without the slightest problem to and from Australia with Quantas and their Jetstar subsidiary. The frustrating thing is that at each step, and at the airport subsequently, I was treated with indifference or with rudeness and without anyone expressing any real desire to help. I had hoped to use our local airline company, but must tell you that I will no longer fly on Hawaiian Airlines, based upon their lack of concern for customers, and I further recommend that hunters avoid this airline pending a policy change with regard to firearms carriage.

Brenton Hurt has one of the best hunting operations I have hunted with.He in the field and Ann solving problems with airlines and lost luggage makes one feel they have no other issues in the world to deal with but yours. We were late leaving Darwin to the Coberg for Banteng.On arrival it looked like a tornado had hit the place.A typhoon had.It destroyed the hunting area and camps.What had been a paradise was a living hell for the Hurt's to get their camp livable in such a short time. The banteng camp was located on the coast just above a major oyster bed.We made a trip each day to collect our appetizers with gun on back for the saltwater crocs that were easy to see from our vantage point. Dave was the chief cook and bottle washer and a good one at that.His corned beef and cabbage was a hit for dinner and the next day or two also! We had both banteng on the ground and us in the air for buffalo within four days.We saw and passed up many before we ended this portion of the hunt. The Koolatong River(I think that's the name) provided some good fishing and a cool relief to the dustings we took on the four wheelers.The camp pool felt great at the end of the day. The water buffalo were everywhere.It was a matter of staying with the plan and covering a lot of ground.Josh tagged out on day three it took me to day five. This trip with family and friends was great.The Hurt's and Dave made a very harsh environment seem tame for us city dwellers. Don't pass up an overnight in Gove.It was as much of an adventure as the banteng and buff camps.

Problems of Hunt: Highlights of Hunt: A most enjoyable hunt. One hundred percent fair chase. The banteng hunt was the most sporting and required considerable stalking. The best thing about the goat hunt was the opportunity to hunt on a uninhabited island (Goulburn Island) North of Australia. Equipment Recommendations: Would You Recommend This Hunt to a Friend? I just returned from a trip to Australia to hunt with Brenton Hurt of Territory Buffalo Safaris. The hunt was for Water Buffalo and banteng. I felt necessary to write a letter in addition to the normal report because I feel that this hunt was one of those rare ones where everything turned out tops from the flight over to the flight back and all between. I flew into Darwin and then flew by charter to Balma, in Arnhem Land for the buffalo. In this area we got around on ATV's and then followed up on foot. The buffalos were numerous but I wanted a good trophy so we glassed many a buff before I shot one. It was in good shape and green taped 106 SCI. The camp in Arnhem Land is well located and well provisioned. After the buffalo hunt, Brenton and I were talking about other available game. He mentioned that there were feral goats on a island north of the Australia mainland (Goulburn Island). Just the idea of going to a uninhabited island in that area appealed to me. We flew to the island on the way to the Cobourg Peninsula, landed on a flat spot and hunted for several hours before seeing anything, and then it was goats everywhere. I shot a couple. We had lunch and then off to the Cobourg camp for Banteng. The banteng camp was a bit more rustic but well laid out on a bluff overlooking the water. Food was excellent, especially fresh oysters on the half shell and mud crab from the nearby waters. This was hunting in paradise. The banteng hunt was different as there was no off road vehicle travel allowed so we left the SUV by the main road and walked in each day. A two or three hour walk through bush, swamp and jungle then lunch, a nap and keep walking and looking. We ran into quite a few cows and calves, and periodically spooked a bull. Finally after a good stalk I was able to shoot one. Luck was with us. The bull was a good one with a spread of 34 ½ inches well above the minimum for entry into Rowland Ward records. The trophy care was excellent, care of the capes and skulls was handled by Brenton himself and I rest assured that they will arrive to the taxidermist in good condition. In summary the hunt was super. I shot excellent trophies, lived well, ate well and had one hell of a good time. I would recommend this hunt unconditionally.
