Atlanta Hartsfield Airport claims damage to the runways in hot weather from very heavy 747's. Therefore, 747's are not allowed to roll with a full load of fuel. This forces the plane to go to Sol in Cape Verde Islands to take on more fuel before heading to Johannesburg or Capetown. You think you have a direct flight but you don't. You will get to South Africa sometimes three hours later than you thought and possibly miss your connection to other points in Africa. Check before you commit to ticketing.

Swainsons arranges for the bushplane pilot to meet you at customs upon arrival in Harare. You immediately walk out on the tarmac, get in the bushplane, and take off for Dande North, a true wilderness area in the bush of the Zambezi Valley where there are no problems with local government or people. The same is true when the safari is over. The bushplane lands at Harare Airport in time for you to catch your commercial flight out of Zimbabwe. For all of the problems that are supposed to be inherent with the country, you certainly won't know it with a system like that.

Hunting is better later in the year. Game Condition Comments: Excellent concentrations of buffalo. Have springs year-round, which pulls animals in from other areas. Hunting is even better in September - October.

Some general comments for conditions in Zimbabwe may be of help to you. Safety: There has been violence, but I had no problems. Fuel: Fuel supplies are limited. Poaching: Poaching is increasing and the national parks and police are not stopping it effectively. Law and Order: Lawlessness and crime are increasing. Game numbers: Game numbers are declining in areas where there is no active safari presence, for example, national parks. Economy: Declining rapidly due to some extraordinary stupid government. Morale: Morale is low in the white population and fairly low among the indigenous people. There is no reason why a hunter of a reasonably robust frame of mind should cancel a hunt in Zimbabwe.

Game Condition Comments: Very healthy game area. Well managed quality of buffalo, kudu and sable well above average. Also good leopard.
