I am very sorry to report that the hunt with Eco Africa was worse than terrible. This was one of the poorest hunts I have ever been on. I believe you will be hearing from Marshall also as he was quite upset. Some of the problem areas:
Misrepresentation of the quantity and quality of the game. I saw only one herd of impala and one young warthog in 5 days of hunting. The land I came to find out from the owner's son only has 2 zebras, about 25 wildebeest, a few Waterbuck, unknown kudu (of which I saw none, not even a female) and no red hartebeest. Your information specifically said that the ranches had numerous game with some excellent trophies.
The accommodations were modest, which is okay in light of the daily fee, but I feel the descriptions in our earlier communications lead one to expect a bit more. This is a very minor point.
The people who run the farm only knew one day in advance that we were coming and the tension between Nico and the farm people became obvious.
Most communications regarding game numbers and size with Nico during the drive to the concessions proved to be very tall tales. I feel that I can never trust his word on a hunting safari again.
On the last day of the hunt Nico did not accompany anyone and spent the afternoon in camp consuming all but one of the remaining bottles of beer, leaving none for the four hot and tired people who sat in the blinds.
When it came time to settle financially, he just said we owed him $2,100 without any paperwork outlining specific costs. We quickly told him that he would only get $1,200 and itemized the individual costs.
We left without any of the required paperwork for the one immature warthog and one wildebeest that Marshall took. As I recall the game department needs his passport number, address and his signature. This makes me very worried about Marshall getting his two animals.
Nico and I even switched camps after two days and saw not one animal.
Good points about the hunt:
The staff at the farm did their best to make a hunt camp ready on very short notice.
The staff at the farm was really fun to be with, and made no false claims or brags about the sparse game population. We made a new set of friends with them, easily.
That is about it for good points. I have hunted Africa eight other times, and you took from me something even more valuable than money, you wasted my time.
I am very sorry to provide such a grim report but this you need to know to make improvements if you wish to stay in this business. I also need to forward a copy to the Hunting Report as no other bow hunters and probably gun hunters need apply until changes are made.

Herewith the reply from Eco Africa to a letter written to us by Ken Grosslight, a copy of which was forwarded to the Hunting Report.
We accept as booking agents, that we cannot satisfy all the clients all of the time. Nevertheless we feel that Mr. Grosslight possibly allowed the fact that (on his own admission) his hunting partner was the better archer, to color his own attitude towards both ranches on which he hunted.
We feel that his comments were both exaggerated and unfair. Whilst not wishing to enter into debate, there are always two sides to a client's story. Hopefully our reply will go a little way towards setting the record straight.
We look foreword to further reaction from your respected and objective publication. We'd also welcome the opportunity to introduce you in person, to the many excellent hunting ranches on our books.

We have investigated your complaints against Nico Kruger, and have also spoken to the owner of Sandhurst Safaris, your first bow-hunting venue.
It is apparent that your bad experience on both ranches can perhaps be contributed to your highly critical and hostile attitude toward your hosts and the facilities on offer. In fact, Mr. Douglas Fletcher of Sandhurst Safaris stated, and I quote: "In 32 years of professional hunting, Mr. Grosslight is the only client I will not allow back on my ranch, not even for a million dollars."
I regret that the subsequent hunt with Eco Africa booked for you with Nico Kruger was also a disappointment. We have booked more that 30 hunters with Nico this year, and those already completed were all successful. Two weeks prior to your arrival, our client, A. Maratta, took the following bag: kudu, waterbuck, blue wildebeest, duiker, two impala and three gemsbok. Our four European rifle-hunting clients who hunted on the ranch immediately after you and Marshall had left, took a 54-inch kudu, gemsbok, blue wildebeest, duiker, three impala and six warthog within five days. Game counts, and bow and rifle hunting success rates for the past two seasons are available on request.
There will be no problem for your companion, Marshall Martin, to get his trophies. Please supply his contact details, passport number and address, in order for Nico to arrange dipping and shipping. A signature is not necessary.
Finally, I would like to re-iterate that hunting conditions in many parts of South Africa are unusually difficult this year, due to late, heavy rains, and unseasonably warm temperatures.
Unfortunately your bow hunt also coincided with the full moon, resulting in the animals drinking at night, rather than coming to the waterholes (and thus your blinds) during the day.
Eco Africa constantly monitors the situation on more that 200 ranches on which we do bookings. Due to the special prices we have negotiated, we have given many overseas hunters time in our beautiful country.
I am sorry that we cannot include you amongst our many satisfied clients.
