I shot everything I wanted. I shot one lion on the third day and the second on the fifth. Shot monster 46-inch buffalo with huge boss measured 118 SCI. Lukwati is an awesome area; lots of game, but found in pockets; saw as many as 2,000 buffalo in one day; saw 20 lion; no people; no poaching; absolutely pristine. |

I wanted the hunting report to know that I just completed a very successful 21-day lion safari with Safai-Royale. The lion I took was an exceptional, once in a lifetime cat. The lion is a fully manned, chocolate colored mane, well beyond his shoulders. I also wanted to commend Charlie Goldenberg of Premier Safari's for setting up a hunt of a lifetime. But I wanted to give special thanks to Ettore Moccri and my PH Boetie Bothma.
I have hunted all over North America (including Alaska twice and one previous trip to Africa) and I can honestly say that Boetie Bothma was the most honest and sincere guide I ever had. He was up front with me the day I arrived in camp where we sat down and went over a list of animals that I was interested in taking. Boetie also educated me on some of the things like what types of foods that particular species of animal would eat and the unusual habits of any particular animal. Plus while we were buffalo hunting Boetie pointed out some of the other features a hunter should look at other than length. One of those features is the hardness of the boss. At "no time" did Boetie ever try and force any animals on me nor did he ever get upset. Considering this is where an outfitter makes their money. He was very selective in what I took, and takes pride in what a client takes.
Every thing I took was fair chase, no running down animals with trucks. The climate was dry. Things started off slow but boy when the animals came in they came in. There was plenty of game and no signs of poaching in the Boetie's area. The whole operation was first class. Even when I shot over what I brought (as far as funds) with me Boetie and Ettore were willing to work with me when I got back to the states.
Boetie was very anxious to hunt and I mean we were up every morning hunting. So we never sat back to relax in the mornings. Again I want to thank Boetie, Ettore and Charlie for filling a 26-year dream of getting a real "Lion."
