Game Sought But Not Taken: Game Condition Comments: This was all free range and post roar so male red deer went to high country. But I saw the evidence of the roar hunt and the stag size was very good. The thick cover and small body size was the difficulty with fallow deer and boar but still good numbers.

I can't think of a better hunt for the cost involved. We bought the hunt off the Bargain Board and I believe the regular cost is $4,500 which is still a steal. This is totally free range hunting and while the trophies aren't like the high fence operations it is a real hunt. I read an article on this hunt in The Hunting Report before going and it really describes this hunt perfectly.

Game Sought But Not Taken: Game Condition Comments: Currently, the Pampas area is going through a drought and antler size has been impacted. However, based on the number of stags roaring, numbers remain excellent and everyone in our party took their two stags. Most stags were bronze level however one of our hunters took a silver quality deer. Hunting is by spot and stalk with your guide trying to ease up to the roaring stag and determine trophy quality. Shots are usually close as the cover is quite thick. Walking is easy with few elevations but the country is very sandy. You may cover several miles in a hunt session so comfortable footwear is a must. There are also blinds for hunting at night and they do allow you to shoot stags as well as boar from the blinds if you want to. I chose to hunt my stags by spot and stalk but this was my personal decision.

Problems of Hunt: One issue was there were only three vehicles to ferry hunters to the field. There were 16 hunters and guides that needed to get to the bush so this was difficult at times but we made the best out of it. Highlights of Hunt: Hearing the stags roar in the cool of the morning as day breaks and deciding which stag to stalk were unique memories of this hunt. We met some great people in camp who we really enjoyed getting to know. I took an average 6x6 stag midway through the hunt and an excellent blackbuck. We also spent an afternoon shooting dove which was a nice break from big game hunting. Even though it was not peak season for windshooting we still had a wonderful afternoon and managed to burn through a case of shells in three short hours. Equipment Recommendations: Pack for an elk trip in mild weather and you have this covered. Would You Recommend This Hunt to a Friend? Yes Why? Sure. Nice estancia and comfortable quarters. A true working ranch with lots of free-range game.

Can't say enough good things about him. At Poitahue, there were stags all around you roaring while hunting. However, I passed on a good stag the first day only to settle on an average one the second to last day. Some excellent stags were taken on the ranch as well as additional species.

Ranch owner Alejandro Pini and his wife were at the property to make sure everything was taken care of properly. Hunt weather was hot and dry. Guides were excellent. Mike Malek, the booking agent was on hand hunting with a bow while I was there and everything he had told me about the hunt and facilities was right on the mark. This is a great alternative to paying for an elk hunt in the US or Canada if you can shoot straight you will harvest great trophies. Getting the firearm into Argentina was easy and staying in Buenos Aires a few days is well worth a person's time. The Pini's are honest and fair and run a great operation. How much better could it get?

Game Sought But Not Taken: Hog, Wild - Availability: Possible recent climate conditions (dry and hot). Game Condition Comments: Several opportunities for myself and other hunters to get a shot at trophy red stag. Stalk, blind and tree stand successes. Taken with rifle and bow. I had most opportunity with rifle stalks. "Roar" reportedly a bit different than seasons past, due to warm weather. Less intense, but longer. Most days there were stag "roaring" in all directions.

Problems of Hunt: Had piece of luggage stolen at bus depot (Buenos Aires). Highlights of Hunt: "Roar" was unforgettable, as was landscape in early mornings and evenings. Bonded well with all staff, particularly the guides. I found them to be "good people". Equipment Recommendations: The stalks required some fairly fast paced hiking in sometimes moderately heavy cover, in order to best get on the game during the "roar". I suggest little or no eqiupment beyond your firearm or bow and perhaps binoculars. Noise suppression was always a consideration. Would You Recommend This Hunt to a Friend? Yes Why? Absolutely. Odds of success are very high, cost is uncomparable and attention by outfitter went above and beyond.

They are not afraid to expend resources above and beyond what was already agreed upon and they did it with the purpose of making every hunter's experience positive and successful. They definitely had my well being and satisfaction in mind throughout the process. They are obviously not a fly by the seat of your pants organization and it is apparent that they are well connected and supported both in Buenos Aires and in La Pampa. I also had the pleasure of meeting Mike Malek (booking agent, Outdoor Adventure Consultants) I found him to be receptive, experienced and genuine. In short, from beginning to end a trustworthy and capable bunch of personnel behind a memorable experience and a successful hunt.

Major Game Animals Taken: Deer, Red - Availability: Abundant - Trophy Size: 5X6. Game Sought But Not Taken: Game Condition Comments: I hunted six days for red stag. It was a package hunt for one cull stag and one trophy stag. Both animals were harvested and I was very pleased with the size and quality of both. This was a free-range hunt with no guarantees. You have to hunt hard for these animals but if you're willing to get out in the field and listen to the guides, you will eventually have an opportunity at a good animal simply due to the number of red deer on this 50,000 acre ranch. The food and accommodations were excellent and the staff took care of your every need.

Problems of Hunt: Highlights of Hunt: The sound of the roar was unbelievable with animals in all directions virtually every morning that the weather cooperated. Fun and challenging stalks every day. Equipment Recommendations: I would recommend renting a rifle at the ranch instead of the headaches of taking your own into the country as I did. This ranch had quality rifles for rent although I would recommend sighting the rental rifle in for yourself if you go that route. Would You Recommend This Hunt to a Friend? Yes Why? It was a great hunting and cultural experience.
