I've just returned from Patagonia Hunters hunting red deer. Seems a bit crazy, as I have all year round red deer hunting in the Brisbane Valley, One hour from my house and three hours flying time from New Zealand. I've hunted red in both Australia and New Zealand for over 40 years and never missed a roar! I just wanted to go to Argentina and see the country and hunt. I am glad I went and I had a great time. They were nice people, very organized from airport to ranch. It's a long drive but worth it just to see the country, different cars, trucks, houses etc. The driver was very good, safe an entertaining with ample food, beer and drinks supplied for the road trip. We arrived at the Ranch El Tranquila in the middle of the rut. The stags were roaring all night close by. The stags are wild - no high fences, with thousands of acres of free range. They are very weary, hard to hunt and a real challenge with most shot at 100 to 200 yards. These wild stags are as good as you will shoot in New Zealand and better than you will shoot in Australia, talking only free range wild stags. I shot a nice 11 point, 40 inch long, 40 inch wide and a old mature 9 point management stag missing baytines and short - about 29 inches, we don't want this one breeding! Highly recommended for true free ranging stag and excitement. Nothing better than reds and elk roaring and bugal. We had great food, good people and organized. My two friends, one shot large 6 x 6 red and the other a nice black buck and did some bird shooting. This was great for two days.

Problems of Hunt: Highlights of Hunt: Stalking roaring red stag during daylight free range in thick bush. Hunting pigs from high seats (they used corn for bait) and also stalking pigs around waterholes and swamps during full moon. The highlight of the hunt was a day hunting pigs with the outfitters friend with his dogs. Extremely thick bush with a lot of thorns. Pigs were killed with a knife. Equipment Recommendations: Use gaiters. I recommend high quality rifle scopes with illuminated reticle to hunt pigs at night. Would You Recommend This Hunt to a Friend? Yes Why? The hunter can expect a top quality free range hunt for a reasonable price. I got three stags and 9 pigs in 15 days. Some guides speak basic English which makes even more fun. Cook did a great job; don't expect to lose weight on this hunt, even when walking 4 or more hours per day.

Great place to hunt and the guides knew every corner of the 25,000 acre cattle farm. Hunters should be able to shoot quick and off hand if necessary, because a lot of the hunt is done in thick bush. They also use shooting sticks. It is a free range hunt, but the game is there. I shot a 6x7 stag, one was a 4X5 and the last one a very old 4X4.

Rebuttal from Agustin Martinez of Patagonia Hunters: Thanks for the note. This kind of report is very useful for outfitters and land owners in order to improve their services. In this case, we are land owners. In my opinion, it is not a bad report. Stu contracted a fair chase hunt in our lands and this is what we offer during the hunting week. In fact, he saw many male and female deer. He shot his stag and two beautiful black bucks. We apologize to Stu and his wife if they are not satisfied with their trophy. As I said before, this is a fair chase hunt; therefore, we cannot guarantee a specific-size trophy. The week Stu was hunting with us, there was a lot roaring and, in my opinion, it was a very good week with roaring every morning. We really do our best to fully satisfy our clients both in their hunting and in their stay at our estancias but, regarding this type of fair chase hunt, some clients are satisfied and others are not.
