Had problems returning back through Paris to the UK with the security people because I had two telescopic sights in my handbag along with binoculars and cameras. No problems whatsoever on the wayout through Paris. Stood my ground with them and was eventually allowed through. Luckily there were no other hunters on our flight and we arrived in Johannesburg just before a flight full of hunters from Atlanta arrived. Had assistance from one of the airport staff getting the guns through the new permit system and then checking in for our flights to Namibia. Excellent result that saw us through in under one hour. Well worth the 20 Euro tip. |

We spent three days hunting on a concession on the edge of the Kalahari staying in a tented camp. This is a magical place and I would recommend anyone going to Omujeve to stay there for at least one night. The PH Braam Visser is a first class hunter and worked extremely hard for us at all times, he also has a tremendous sense of humor. There are plenty of jackals and baboons to also make an entertaining diversion for hunting hard on foot. If you have yet to visit Namibia, you really need to do it soon. I cannot recommend Omujeve Safaris highly enough, as the people to hunt with. This safari was a fathers 21st birthday present to his only son. I would not have entrusted such a special time to any other safari company.

|
My name is Paula LeForce. My husband, Benjamin, has written and called you in the past. He respects your advice and enjoys the Hunting Report. We recently traveled to North Central Namibia on a hunting and sightseeing trip. This story requires a little back ground information so please bear with me.
I am over fifty and my entire life has been in an urban environment. Hunting and firearms were not part of my activities. Having polio as a child left me paralyzed from the neck down. I eventually regained some mobility, but assumed that many outdoor activities were beyond my reach. My life was about to make a major change when we married about two and a half years ago.
Ben moved me from the city to the country and immediately introduced me to target shooting with a 22 pistol and rifle which I found fascinating. A few months after we married we went to Victoria Falls for a honeymoon and two weeks of hunting and sightseeing. My family back at home in Oklahoma just knew I would be carried off by animals or headhunters. What a trip it was. I fell in love with Africa and will never forget those days.
Sometime later Ben asked me if I would like to hunt something. Since I can't walk on uneven ground or climb he found a place where you can shoot from the hunting vehicle. It would not be easy as the animals there flee at sight of a stopping vehicle. We spent many days that winter practicing with a 30-06 to prepare for the hunt.
We arrived at Omujeve Safari's hunting lodge in the hills of North Central Namibia on the 17th of May 2003. What a greeting. An African hunting camp with electricity, normal beds, and first class rooms. Omujeve is about Denver altitude with very low humidity, cool nights and mild days year round. Perfect hunting weather. The Omujeve staff was quite friendly and tended to our every need.
The next morning we were off in search of trophy quality Blesbok. Each time I managed to get one in my sights it would move, or another would step in front or behind. I had never experienced anything quite like this before and each time they would escape my sights the frustration and excitement grew like crazy. Just as I was about ready to throw in the towel we ran in to a bachelor group of nice trophies. I picked one out and Blam. Where did he go. The guys all started yelling, he's down. I could hardly believe it. I actually took my first game animal and in Africa at that. Later that day Ben took an excellent Gemsbok. The next day Ben scored again with a record book hartebeest and I shot my second animal, a nice springbok which looks like it will also get into the record book.
What a time we had. Four animals between us that made the Namibian record book. All four earning medals. The springbok and the hartebeest will probably make the SCI record book as well. Each evening at the lodge was a celebration for each game taken.
Omujeve has a great selection of game including: Greater kudu, red hartebeest, and gemsbok. They may have a high perimeter fence but the animals are truly wild and run free. Some shots become quite difficult. 100 to 300 yard shots are common, so practice your 200 to 300 yard shooting ahead of time. We did not shoot a large number of game but that is not your style. We like to mix sightseeing with our hunting trips.
"Thanks" is a small word with a big meaning. I would like to say thanks to the staff of Omujeve for being such gracious hosts and accommodating my special needs. I would also like to say thanks to my husband, Ben. He nurtured something in me that I had lost over the years- that behind us are all the challenges we have conquered, and before us lie new horizons filled with endless possibilities. He taught me that life is an adventure, that I can truly enjoy, and from now on I will seize each moment and make it my own.
