SUMMARY
REMARKS |
 |
| Problems
of Hunt: |
The contract driver was over one hour late to meet our arrival in Windhoek and then showed up in a vehicle that was too small for our party of six with our luggage. By luck my son had rented a pickup truck so we could easily accommodate all of us and the luggage. Including my family, two hunting friends and video photographer--7 in our group. We did not know until last evening of the trip that the cook was fired three days before our arrival. This put a big strain on Isabel Nolte to run the kitchen. In addition she was burdened with two young children that were ill the first half of our trip. So as a result the breakfasts and lunches were below par until we suggested some changes. Dinners were always excellent and included very good South African wines. The guest rooms were first class and always well maintained and very clean. They also were nicely appointed with attractive furnishings. Laundry was done on a daily basis. |
| Highlights
of Hunt: |
Taking a world class Dik Dik on the third day of the hunt. Very abundant game for viewing and photography. The Noltes were very helpful in pointing out local sights to my adult children who did some side trips in the vehicle that they rented in Windhoek. The town of Omaruru is about ten miles from the lodge and is a very attractive and clean town. In fact probably the cleanest town I have seen in my seven trips to Africa. The town had several very good restaurants and some high end shops that were far better than most African curio stores. In addition there is very clean and high-end grocery store in Omaruru. |

| Would You
Recommend This Hunt to a Friend? |
yes |
| Why? |
In spite of a few glitches the Noltes worked very hard to make everyone's trip a pleasant experience and provide good hunting opportunities. They were willing to make changes when requested. I would suggest they consider hiring a manager when they can afford one. |

I should mention the Nolte's property around the lodge is only a few thousand high fenced acres, so hunting is limited there. Our morning drives to other properties ranged from 30 minutes to one hour. So the further hunts can make for some very full days. The other properties were a mix of fenced and open range. The Nolte's hunting vehicles were in very good condition and quite comfortable. I did request an afternoon of bird shooting which was arranged for me.I bagged a few guinea fowl and some francolin grouse. A pleasant change of pace. We enjoyed the game birds for dinner the following evening.

Comments: |
Air Namibia is fine - no problems. Lufthansa refused to permit my wife's carry on despite the fact that it met the size requirements. Airline said the bag was "too heavy" to carry on. It was gate checked after my wife hastily removed our prescription medications. Unfortunately, she put the medication under the seat in front of her and then forgot she had taken it out of the carry on bag and left it on the plane. Lufthansa customer service was unfriendly and unhelpful in trying to retrieve the medications and we never did get them, even though they were in prescription bottles with our name, address and phone number on them. One of our children subsequently became ill with strep throat and we could have used the antibiotic. However, Isabel Nolte contacted a pharmacist in Omaruru who agreed to meet us at the pharmacy and dispense a replacement (same exact prescription) on a Sunday when the pharmacy was closed. Isabel did a tremendous job in calming my wife's concerns and helping my son get back on his feet (and on the truck) within 2 days. |

SUMMARY
REMARKS |
 |
| Problems
of Hunt: |
We had trouble arranging access to the farm where we were to hunt roan and nyala and were ultimately restricted to a blind. |
| Highlights
of Hunt: |
Unexpected leopard. We received news of a leopard that had killed a calf in a kraal and were able to set up a blind to hunt the tom when he returned to this natural kill for a second time. |
| Equipment
Recommendations: |
None. Weather was cool in mornings and warm in the afternoons in July. Spotting from truck and then stalking on foot. Not a lot of walking. |
| Would You
Recommend This Hunt to a Friend? |
Yes |
| Why? |
The Noltes run a first class operation and are very nice people who will do whatever it takes to ensure that you have a great experience. The game is abundant and you will take excellent trophies. |

This was a great hunt to experience with my family, including my wife, who accompanied us as an observer, and my two sons (who were 12 and 15 at the time of this hunt). The boys took excellent trophies and had an absolute blast. We were very impressed with the quality of the lodgings and meals - my wife was very comfortable. The Nolte family is very warm and friendly and went to lengths to make sure that my wife was happy and had plenty of opportunities to do non-hunting things on the days she chose not to accompany us into the field. They are very professional and run a first class operation. I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone looking for a good leopard or plainsgame in Namibia.

Nick and Isabel Nolte run a first class operation and are a great pleasure to be with. The facilities are very nice and comfortable and food was excellent. Their staff is courteous and competent and the trackers and dogs which accompanied were invaluable in finding game which was well hit but hard to put down.

SUMMARY
REMARKS |
 |
| Problems
of Hunt: |
My wife had to miss the first 2 days in the field as she couldn't sleep due to a reaction to the anti-malarials (Malarone) we were taking as a precaution (though there really weren't any mosquitoes in the area). We didn't realize this was the problem until Nick asked us what we were taking. Once she stopped taking it, she slept well and had no further problems. I just had bad dreams. |
| Highlights
of Hunt: |
Taking a huge Gembsok and Hartebeest. Nick and Isabel are tremendous and very friendly. Their son Ben was a delight, as were the other members of their family that we got to meet, get to know, dine with, and even stay with for a night away at another ranch. The facilities are very nice, and the food is great. This is a very wife- and family-friendly trip (there is even a swimming pool). My wife was a bit apprehensive before the trip, but she spoke to Isabel in advance and was assured that there would be lots for her to do. She did stay behind one day to go shopping, sightseeing, etc., but preferred to accompany me in the field instead to see the abundant wildlife, including birds and baboons. |
| Equipment
Recommendations: |
Laundry is done daily, so you don't need much hunting clothes. Make sure the color isn't too light or it may stand out too much. Everything has thorns, so I prefer long sleeves and pants, also sunscreen, leather shooting gloves, a good hat, and sunglasses |
| Would You

Terrific plains game hunt, especially for a first safari. |

Yes |
| Why? |
I could not have had a better hunt. Nick and his wife were great. PH Marris Berger (at 24 years old) was super to hunt with. Staff was great. Jack Atcheson Jr helped plan a wonderful safari. |
