Got to do frontal brain shot that I was hoping for . Hunted next several days for other species as a bonus. Went north last two days to Deka Area and went buffalo hunting with my friend who was struggling to get on a buffalo up there. I went out with him last day and he made bad shot on good bull. Tracker was great and we recovered bull after more shots 10 plus hours later and never stopped walking after him. That is real hunting to me.

Problems of Hunt: Couldn't prebait and was not allowed to use domestic bait (i.e. donkey, etc). It's a large concession area with lots of baits required, at one time we had 9 different leopards identified off of lion baits. Unfortunately, we didn't find one for taking but that's hunting free range lion.

Buffalo are there but very spooky.

Late August is very hot in the Omay region, 95 to 100 degrees at midday. By the time we got there 16 bulls had already been killed, out of a quota of 20. The best time to hunt elephant is in April or May. I passed up a couple of Buffalo in the 38+ range on the second day because I wanted to concentrate on an elephant first. This was a straight forward, cover 6 to 15 miles per day, type of hunt. No riding around, shooting plains game out of a vehicle type of hunt. It pays to be in good shape if you really want to enjoy the challenge of elephant hunting the right way.
