Dave does it again! He put me with a first class guide in Henry Tiffany of Fairbanks, Alaska . We had a slow start with mechanical problems on the snowmobiles but when we got to hunting things moved along great. Took a great arctic grizzly in the most beautiful place on earth as far as I am concerned. I hope to hunt with Dave and Henry again.... And again......and again!! Thanks Dave!

Dave is a top notch outfitter, from booking to basic questions, to my arrival, Dave promptly returned all calls. My guide helped with gear buying and it all paid off in the end. Dave takes a very limited number of hunters to which ensures a high quality hunt. His guides are great guys (Martin & Riley) and have worked for Dave for many years.

SUMMARY REMARKS
Problems of Hunt: Only problem was the Pen Air airline. Even the weather was ok for this part of Alaska.
Highlights of Hunt: I have hunted with Dave Leonard @ Mountain Monarchs three times.Once in the fall of 2007 for brown bear in unit 9 out of the famous David River Lodge with Steve my guide with no luck. Did harvest a wolf on that trip. Hunted Dall sheep in 2008 with success. Highlights were spectacular country with much snow cover still and a very competent outfitter with exellent staff and guides. From the main camp staff to the pilots and guide in the field, I could not have asked for better. Steve my guide knows his area like no one else. His competence as a guide is as good as I could ask for.I believe all the guides at Dave's are as good as it gets. I am reporting this from being with them unsuccessful in 2007 & successful in 2008 and 2010. The food is plentiful and everyone involved with this outfit are there to see that you have a great experience.
Equipment Recommendations: Outfitter list.
Would You Recommend This Hunt to a Friend? Yes
Why? I think Dave has the area as well the know how to get the job done if possible. We all know its called hunting and he cannot control weather, game, etc. I have had three great trips with Dave Leonard and hope to have a few more.

ADDITIONAL HUNTER COMMENTS AND/OR OUTFITTER/BOOKING AGENT REBUTTAL
This is the second time I've filed a report and wanted to recommend this outfitter to anyone interested in hunting Alaska.

I hunted from September 18, 2008 through September 25, 2008 in Unit 9 on the Alaskan Peninsula out of Cold Bay. My outfitter was Master Guide Dave Leonard of Mountain Monarchs of Alaska (Dave also offers hunts in other parts of Alaska as well as Australia).

Dave and his staff along with the guides and bush pilots were not only professional but great fun to be with.

The weather was both spectacular and challenging. Cold weather and rain gear is mandatory. Jeans will not cut it.

I hunted with my wife and she was in the field during the entire hunt. Our guide was Martin Balukas who is a true professional in the field and great traveling companion.

We ate well in our spike camp and during the long days of glassing. We were entertained throughout the day by the antics of these huge bruins. Most had just recently come out of their dens up in the mountains. They would stop and scratch on the big outcroppings on the sides of the mountain as has been done for the past millennia.

I was able to take a good bear that measured 9 foot 10 inches with a 28 1/8 inch skull. The biologist estimated his age at 28-30 years which is close to their natural life expectancy.

I recommend Dave Leonard and Mountain Monarchs of Alaska along with Martin Balukas without reservations. This was one of those great experiences that when you get home, you ponder if it actually happened at all.
