Problems of Hunt: None. Poaching is a problem here but outfitter has it under control in the core area they hunt. Watch out for the ticks! Highlights of Hunt: Finding lone sable bull after days of stalking. Having first sight of big nyala bull after days of seeing glimpses of horn tips or tails. Only bushpig seen was a boar at mid day. Having founders of Morkore, Barrie and Bertie Duckworth, in camp. Lots of stories and lots of laughs. This was my 8th safari in Africa, 1st in Mozambique and 1st with Mokore. Everything was excellent. The camp is new and very nice. Food was outstanding. Doug is a young PH but very professional and a good hunter. Also hunted with Neil Duckworth for a few days at the start and would be happy to hunt with him again as well. The game populations are still rebuilding in Coutada 9, but with addition of permanent water and lots of anti poaching over the past 8 years, the effort is starting to pay off. Only animals we didn't get that we were looking for were red duiker and suni but the little stuff is hard to find and we did see one suni ram that just didn't give us long enough. More big warthog and kudu than I've seen anywhere else. Good herds of sable but tough to hunt. Lots of nyala sign but also difficult to hunt. Overall it was an outstanding trip and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Mokore. I hope to hunt with them again someday.

This hunt was the second time I have hunted with Mokore Safaris and both have totally exceeded my expectations. I would recommend them to anyone and am looking forward to booking again in 2011. The camp is magnificent in an incredible setting. Saw kudu, waterbuck, impala, warthog, etc. on the lawn every night. Watched bushbuck and a variety of game off the deck. Perfect place to bring your wife or a father/son/daughter hunt. My wife hunted as well and was treated with the utmost respect and had an incredible time. The Mokore Conservancy is over 1 million acres and holds the big five, of which we saw all - close encounters with rhino are more than interesting. Great trackers, camp staff and equipment.

I hunt with Mokore Safaris and Gary Duckworth every year and it only gets better. This was my third time we've hunted Mozambique together. This lion is the true highlight of my hunting career. It was a huge old lion in the middle of an enormous safari area. We tracked the lion and shot it on foot in the day time. There are no fences anywhere and I mean nowhere in the area. I can't say enough good things about Mokore Safaris or Gary Duckworth. I read Winds of Havoc while there as we were hunting in Adelino's old area, which only added to the experience. This hunt is as close to "Old Africa" as it gets.

Problems of Hunt: The Forestry camp at Ngamo Sikumi was dilapidated, food was in short supply but camp staff friendly. Mokore is self catering the Forestry hunts this year so all should be fine. Highlights of Hunt: Taking 45" sable first hour of first hunting day. Followed by huge 39" eland the second day. Equipment Recommendations: Boots with good ankle support if you want to climb kopjes looking for klipspringer. Late season one of those litte portable battery powered fans might be very nice. Would You Recommend This Hunt to a Friend? Yes Why? Mokore safaris just provides consistent excellent service regardless of where they hunt. If it is possible to do it right they will.

For Sadie and I this was a special safari as it gave us a chance to hunt again with the Duckworth's after a 11 years hiatus. We also were looking to upgrade some trophies we already had taken plus take several small antelope and oddities we had failed on in the past. Finally we were very anxious to see Mokore's most recently acquired area coutada 9 and 13 in Mozambique. As I mentioned we hunted Ngamo which is on the Hwange border in the west of Zim, the Save Conservancy in the lowveld in the east of the country and Coutada 9 in Mozambique just south of the Zambesi. The hunting was excellent in all 3 areas. Of course after the big sable and eland in Ngamo the rest of the safari was all gravy. We upgraded several trophies, took four of the litte guys, 2 bushpigs and a couple of incredible warthogs. I gave the camp only a good because the Ngamo camp was not good. Otherwise camps were very good. I also did not mention trophy care because I do not have the Zim trophies yet. The Mozambique trophies came through in excellent condition though. We drove everywhere from one end of Zimbabwe to the other and into Mozambique. Neil Duckworth handled everything with ease. Iwould like to say in the 3.5 weeks we were on the ground with Neil he never slack off at all in his persuit of the trophies we wanted. Even if it was as common as a warthog he gave it his full attention. On several stalks if he had given up I would have not thought poorly of him but he never gave up. He also was an amazing judge of trophies. of the 17 animals we actually killed he only over estimated the Chobe bushbuck and it ended up being a litte ove 17". I was not the least disappointed. He did not even outwardly at least loose his humor even when I shot poOrly. That is a good PH.

Game Condition Comments: Neil Duckworth was a pleasure to hunt with during the trip. I have never had anyone work so hard for my success on a hunting trip. We survived on long hours and little sleep for several days trying to find the right lion. I avoided driving in Zimbabwe cities and flew to Harare and out to camp immediately from the airport. We had no problems with security. I did not take a large number of plains game. The area is not noted for it's number of plains game, mostly the big four. If I had finished earlier, the plan was to go to Mokore late in the hunt. The lion prevented that from happening.

Problems of Hunt: Several big male lions were smart enough to feed late and get out before daylight. We were on and around lion the whole trip. Due to the challenge with the lion it diminished our time with leopard. We had several males feeding, but just didn't have the time to sit them. We were in an area that did not allow hunting after dark. These problems were not due to anything other than unpredictable animal circumstances. Neil did everything possible to get them to cooperate. Highlights of Hunt: Close encounter of the lion kind. Female with cubs and close to two males fighting. First time to take an elephant at close range. Approximately 10-12 paces. Problems of Hunt: Chewore South Main park manager was very uncoopporative not allowing baiting or hunting of any kind around any source of water which this year happened to be abundant. Highlights of Hunt: Taking a 42 inch buffalo and tuskless cow elephant. Also being charged by matriarch elephant and having to put her down also. We were into lions also everyday. Caracal - Availability: Cat, Serval - Availability: Antelope, Klipspringer - Availability: Game Condition Comments: I was very impresssed with the quality of the camp and abundancy of kudu and eland for a fair chase (no fences) hunt. Passed at least 25 kudu over 50" and several more in the high 40's before taking a 55" on day 8. Prior years had more large kudu from several references I know, and Anthrax and hoof and mouth have had an impact, but I still passed on many trophy bull kudu. Passed several larger eland hoping for a 40" and took 32" on the very late afternoon of day 9 of 10. Saw 3-4 bigger bushbuck after I shot this one on day 6. Took no large animals the first few days and shot first bushbuck I saw. Drove by a 14+ inch bushbuck on the way back to camp with mine in the truck. That's hunting. Passed on several larger waterbuck, many in the 28" range before taking this one on day 7. Like bushbuck, it was time to take one to keep focused on kudu and eland. Saw probably 10-15 eland over 30". I booked this hunt specifically for kudu and was impressed with the number and quality of kudu I saw. I was also impressed with Gary's ability to judge kudu. He knew I wanted a 55" or bigger bull, and he was honest in his estimates of trophy size. Kudu are hard to judge, and we were both conservative in our opinions. Very nice camp, suitable for a wife and/or family hunt. Blue Wildesbeest and Impala were very abundant and saw several very nice wildebeest, but I did not shoot as I already have very nice one. Same with Impala as to trophy size and why i did not collect one. Bought hunt at local SCI chapter and added on 3 days. Saw a LARGE amount of big leopard sign, but did not have the time or budget to upgrade to include leopard. Saw wild black rhino and elephant on concession. Saw fresh lion kill of eland and would have hunted it if permit was available. The conservancy only has 1 or very few lion permits, so it was not an option. Would have been a relatively easy hunt on a very fresh kill. Saw a few very nice Klipspringer, and was simply unable to convert. Want full mount, so I was using a 22 hornet. Would have shot a nice one with a larger caliber as only shot was through brush and another was behind a tree.

Know 4 or 5 people who hunted with them and they were well referred. All other got kudu over 55 inches, and that was the primary animal I wanted to hunt. Was able to get ant bear, genet, civet, baboon and 2 species of hyrax (small rodent type animal living in klipsringer koppes. No safety issues in Zimbabwe. Arrived at airport and went striaght to camp. Return was the same except for side trip to buy carvings. Good deals on artwork-nice stone carvings for great prices. Guide told me the ladies regularly drive 5 hours to Harare without escorts or men in the truck. Poachers/war vets were seen, and they reduced the bushbuck population, but serious hunters will collect the animal. Gas was scarce, but camp had ample supply. Vehicles in good shape and cleaned nightly.

Problems of Hunt: Four hunters in camp was too many for size of concession. Highlights of Hunt: Shooting two fantastic kudus and an exciting eland stalk. My PH Hilton Nichols provided a fun and highly successful safari experience. His 27 years of experience showed in his knowledge of African stories around the evening campfire.
