I passed on a good ram the first day because of a broomed horn. Some would have liked that ram but I wanted to hunt some more. On the fifth day we got on my ram which was 10 years old and with a 39 3/4" longest horn. The broomed horn wasn't much shorter and the old ram was roman nosed and heavy. On the seventh day we were out glassing for bear and spotted one a mile or so away. We rode horses and walked to 170 yards, identified it as a boar and stopped it's sheep killing. We spiked out for three nights and spent the rest in a comfortable permanent camp with cabins. In booking I wanted a good chance at a ram, the use of horses and a chance to add a Grizzly bear. This was perfect as far as I was concerned.

Major Game Animals Taken: Caribou, Mountain - Availability: Average - Trophy Size: 365 1/8 B&C green. Game Sought But Not Taken: Wolf - Availability: Grizzlies are never plentiful and both wolves and grizzly are targets of opportunity. The other hunter in camp saw a grizzly sow with 2 cubs, and a family group of wolves - he missed a long range shot. Bear, Grizzly - Availability: Game Condition Comments: Winter 08-09 was hard in the Yukon and possibly many older, stressed bulls were lost. We saw from 15- to 65 total caribou each day - lots of young bulls, but not many mature trophy quality bulls.

Problems of Hunt: Highlights of Hunt: Taking a beautiful bull caribou from a herd of 45 bulls on a sunny day after a 5 1/2 hour horseback trek - on the 8th day of hunting. Shot the bull with a .338 rifle that belonged to my friend, Jack O'Connor, who killed a 40 inch Dall ram in this same area in 1956. Equipment Recommendations: Raingear. Would You Recommend This Hunt to a Friend? Yes Why? Mervyns are honest, good people who do not over promote their area or trophy quality, great ram with them 4 yeas ago. World Record mountain caribou was from their area.

Problems of Hunt: Highlights of Hunt: Saw tremendous amounts of mountain caribou, woods bison on this hunt.
