ADDITIONAL HUNTER COMMENTS AND/OR OUTFITTER/BOOKING AGENT REBUTTAL
Both PHs worked from daylight to dark trying to secure the trophies that I had come to Zimbabwe to hunt. They were always looking after me and asking me if I was ok and if I needed anything. Both were very knowlegeable of the animals that I wanted and of the area that we were hunting in. Both also demanded hard work from all the individuals involved in my hunts from the skinners to the trackers. They did not allow for any shortcuts from the help. I plan to go back in 2013 with Martin Pieters to get that buffalo that I did not get. I also plan to hunt in the Omay South camp again. This was the best hunt that I have ever been on.

GAME DESCRIPTION
Major Game Animals Taken: Buffalo, Cape - Availability: Abundant - Trophy Size: 119 SCI.
Elephant - Availability: Abundant - Trophy Size: Over 40 pounds.
Game Sought But Not Taken: Waterbuck - Availability: I have taken three common waterbuck and was hunting for an above average trophy.
Game Condition Comments: November weather was hot and the rains were just beginning so they were a welcome respite from the 100 degrees plus heat. Because it was late in the year and conditions were dry, game was concentrated around the Ume River, Lake Kariba and the various springs hidden throughout the hills in the Omay North. Saw excellent numbers of elephant, hippo, croc and buffalo. Also lots of bushbuck, waterbuck and impala. Saw four nice elephant bulls that were "shooters" on our short hunt.

SERVICE RATINGS (excellent, good, fair or poor)
Quality of Outfit: Excellent Guide/PH Ability: Excellent
Condition of Camp: Good Condition of Equipment: Excellent
Quality of Food: Good Trophy Care: Excellent
Name of Airline: Delta Airlines Airline Service: Good
Airline Comments: Flew economy. I liked the nonstop flight and the attendants were all excellent, but it is still economy and the plane was full on the trip to and from Johannesburg.

COSTS
Hunting Fees: Amount: $5750
Trophy Fees: Amount: $12000
Permits/Licenses: Amount: $0
Commercial Airfares: Amount: $1985
Charter Airfares: Amount: $3780
Other Costs: Dip and pack and gratuities. Amount: $350
Total: $0

SUMMARY REMARKS
Problems of Hunt:
Highlights of Hunt: I had the single most incredible hunting day in 14 African safaris by taking a over 40 pound elephant bull and a 40 inch Cape buffalo within 3 hours of each other.
Equipment Recommendations: During the warmer months, September through November, I suggest a small battery powered camp fan that runs on D batteries for your chalet. Also, powdered Gatoraid or Rehydrate to keep electrolytes up as extreme heat and hiking the hills will take it's toll on you. I found the Frogg Togg's "Chilly Pad" to be a lifesaver as well.
Would You Recommend This Hunt to a Friend? Yes
Why? Martin and his group of PHs are dedicated to making sure you have a memorable hunt in the Omay North. The Omay North with the Ume River and Lake Kariba is a unique area and is being managed under a long term contract for quality game for today and the future.

ADDITIONAL HUNTER COMMENTS AND/OR OUTFITTER/BOOKING AGENT REBUTTAL
We had a group of four hunters in the Ume River Camp for buffalo and other end-of-the-year leftover quota. We had four buffalo down in 2 1/2 days. Our group finished the week with the following tally: four buffalo bulls, one elephant bull, one tuskless elephant cow, one bushbuck and an impala. We considered this an excellent bag. Martin and his staff did a fantastic job on this hunt. From the planning stages with his office assistant to the hunt itself, all went flawless. Two thumbs up.

GAME DESCRIPTION
Major Game Animals Taken: Lion - Availability: Scarce - Trophy Size: 9 feet 10 inches (Male)
Buffalo - Availability: Average - Trophy Size: 38 inches (bull)
Waterbuck - Availability: Average - Trophy Size: 29 iches
Zebra - Availability: Average - Trophy Size:
Hippopotamus - Availability: Abundant - Trophy Size:
Impala - Availability: Abundant - Trophy Size: 23 inches
Game Sought But Not Taken: Sable - Availability: Did not see shootale male
Game Condition Comments: This was a true fair chase hunting area. Some game was plentiful; however, good trophy specimens required hard hunting. The Omay region is not for the leisurely hunter, many miles of hard walking was required daily on fairly rocky and hilly terrain. Many herds of buffalo (20 t 40 heads per herd) were seen regularly. Dagga boys were less abundant and generally tracked in high hills and in difficult terrain. Hippos and good trophy crocos were plentiful on Lake Kariba and the Ume River banks. Good leopards are taken regularly, however, my lion, taken at bait in daylight, was the first one this year for the area. I saw many lionesses at bait, but few males. Good elephant (55+ pounds), waterbuck, sable, eland and zebra are taken regularly in the area; however, general antelope numbers have been seriously affected by poaching, which was at its height at the time due to the economic conditions prevaling in Zimbabwe. The Ume River camp was a traditional, well-run established old camp., overlooking banks with hippos, crocs and with regular serenades from lions and hyenas at night. It offers a taste of comfortable but unpretentious, true, fair-chse, old style safari hunting for the big four and many other dangerous and plains game species.

ADDITIONAL HUNTER COMMENTS AND/OR OUTFITTER/BOOKING AGENT REBUTTAL
I returned last week from a 15-day safari with Butch Walker's Bulembi Safaris in the Omay area of northern Zimbabwe. I encountered no problems of any type, and it was a most enjoyable African adventure. The diminished travel to that country was obvious while I was there. My thanks to you and the advice contained in the Hunting Report in recent months which enabled me to pursue this trip with a degree of confidence. The word there is that the situation will probably get worse before it gets better so your suggested questions for clients to ask of their reputable, well-established safari operator is more important than ever, it appears to me. Also, the price of fuel went up in excess of 60 percent in one price increase the last week I was there. In addition it is reported that the country will likely have to import as much as 40 percent of it's maize requirement for this year. Both of these developments add to the potential for more problems. I was told by reliable sources, that hunts are still being offered, and taken on private farms and ranches due to cut-rate bargain prices. The consensus of the locals was as you have reported-Don't Do It! Again - many thanks for your Zim. Crisis updates and info in general.
