SUMMARY REMARKS
Problems of Hunt: Due to lack of water we had to drive long distances to find the elephants. Very dry year.
Highlights of Hunt: Hunting with Luke Blackbeard and learning so much from him and of course taking a nice jumbo with my wife fifteen yards behind me. Dream come true.
Equipment Recommendations: Rented a .416 Rigby instead of the hassles of transporting a weapon. Great caliber for ellies.
Would You Recommend This Hunt to a Friend? yes
Why? Seeing so many ellies each day and stalks were normally not that long. Try to hunt with Luke somewhere in Africa if you can.

ADDITIONAL HUNTER COMMENTS AND/OR OUTFITTER/BOOKING AGENT REBUTTAL
This hunt was on my bucket list but got moved up quickly due to health issues. I was fortunate to book a hunt in March with Luke Blackbeard whom my wife Carol and I had met several years previously in Zambia. Decided then that I wanted Luke to be my PH if I ever got to go on an elephant hunt in Botswana. We flew into Kasane, Bostwana and drove three hours south to the northern camp in Tamafupa. This camp is southwest of the famous baobab marked with a cross that was mentioned in Fred Everett's book "Heat, Thirst, and Ivory." Both Luke and his tracker knew of the tree, called the "Missionary Tree" but stated it was no longer standing. There was no water in the pan so few elephant in that part of a very large concession. We had to drive to the southern area to find water and the elephants. Conditions were very dry and unseasonably hot for late August. The camp was decent and set in the mixed teak forest not too far west of the Zim border. The areas we hunted were more open with far fewer trees but the water attracted many elephants. There were some natural springs that supported the game in the region. Some buffalo and one great MGM mane lion we saw twice in this area. We saw many bulls each day and Luke spent several days teaching me by stalking various bulls. Each stalk was a thrill and my wife was with me each step but carefully behind us at a safe distance. Most bulls we found were in the 50lb range with some larger ones but with broken tusks. One single tusker had a great single tusk over 80 lbs. On the fifth day we found a nice looking bull that was feeding with two other bulls. The wind changed on our first stalk but they did not catch our scent. We spent around 1.5 hours trying to find a good approach. We did a second short stalk from another direction which brought us in to about 28 yards for a clean side brain shot. The 400 grain solid put him down on his back legs instantly and then rolled over in classic fashion. Initially, Luke thought the bull would be around 60 lbs but the ivory had a greater length inside than normal. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that night that both tusks were over 70lbs! Nicely matched, very thick typical Botswana tusks.  Debbie Peake at Mochaba Developments in Maun handled the shipment of the tusks which I received in slightly less than six months after completion of the hunt! Terrific service all around.  Found out later that the tracker had taken quite a bit of video including the final stalk/shot. What a great gift when Luke sent the video to us. I am greatly saddened by what is taking place in Botswana today and consider it a great privilege and honor to have hunted there with an iconic PH.

Major Game Animals Taken: Buffalo, Cape - Availability: Abundant - Trophy Size: Superb, 44".
Tsessebe - Availability: Abundant - Trophy Size: Superb, 16-3/4".
Varmint - Availability: Scarce - Trophy Size: Blackbacked jackal. Very nice.
Game Sought But Not Taken:
Game Condition Comments: I took everything I wanted in three days. Most enjoyable, successful hunt I have been on for years, due in large part to a most interesting PH, Glen Munger, and the beauty and bounty of the Okavango.

SERVICE RATINGS (excellent, good, fair or poor)
Quality of Outfit: Excellent Guide/PH Ability: Excellent
Condition of Camp: Excellent Condition of Equipment: Excellent
Quality of Food: Excellent Trophy Care: Excellent
Name of Airline: South African Airlines Airline Service: Poor
Airline Comments: South African Airlines new 340 Airbuses are the worst airplanes in the air and that comes from someone who flew business class. I went to the rear of the plane to visit my sister and brother in law and was shocked at the deplorable conditions. I will never fly on South African Airlines. They have no regard for their passengers. I felt guilty sitting up front while hundreds of people who had paid thousands of dollars sat in the back, literally on top of one another.

SUMMARY REMARKS
Problems of Hunt:
Highlights of Hunt: I am remiss in filling this report. I have been back for months and still can't believe I was fortunate enough to take a grand old Cape Buffalo on my first day in camp. My PH, Glen Munger, was not only a superb PH, but he was the most enjoyable fellow to hunt with. He knew more about flora and fauna then any PH I have ever hunted with. He was teaching me about the Okavango, Botswana, the history of the country, the people, the animals, the Okavango flood, every single day we hunted together. Given my good fortune, taking three superb animals in the first three days I was there, I would have just gone home to Wisconsin. Glen Munger had another idea. The day after my tags were filled, Glen took me fishing for Tilapia in the Okavango. What an enjoyable, beautiful day. Surrounded by hippos and colorful birds, Glen and I caught our dinner in a couple of hours of fast paced fishing. Later, Glen invited me to go home with him to his ranch near Francistown, on the other side of the country to shoot "game meat". Glen and his father and brother own a 35,000 cattle ranch and supply both beef and game meat to the local grocery stores and restaurants. For five days we toured the Munger's ranch, harvested game meat and did a little shopping along the way. Most relaxing. Finally, and sadly, it was time for me to leave Glen and his wife Sam and Botswana and return to the States. I will return to hunt with Mark Kyricacou Safaris and Glen again. This time something a bit bigger! I would rate this hunt the highest on your scale.
Equipment Recommendations: Flat wedge soled light weight Russell Safari "PH" boots for walking in the sand. A wedge sol prevents foot bridge fatigue and doesn't dig into the sand, making walking much easier.
