There were many species available on this typical game ranch. I had taken them previously and am a one per species hunter. Also the pig was a completely "wild hunt" due to the nature of this nocturnal animal. This was a one off hunt for me after seeing gorillas + chimps in Ruwanda, a photo safari! |

I first met Mark at the Dallas Safari Club show in 2006, and the rest is history as they say. Mark is the real deal. He is a straight shooter no promises he can't keep. That says a lot in my book. I hunted Zimbabwe in 2006 with him and took a great 60 pound bull elephant with a brain shot and nice bossed buffalo. Booked this hunt for plains game in RSA and took my wife Stephanie to Africa for the first time. She can't wait to go back with Mark. She informed me that the only way I can go back to the Dark Continent was with her and our PH had to be Mark.

Unfortunately, fires in Unit 4 required that we shift to an adjoining Matetsi unit on day 5 to find buffalo. This really didn't pose a problem, inasmuch as each of the Matetsi units have a cooperative agreement whereby if game has shifted from one unit to another, they will grant permission for PHs to cross into their area. Within four hours of entering the other unit I had bagged a beautiful, mature 39 inch herd bull with enormous bosses. |

Hunting with Mark Dewet, who is a superb PH with a sterling reputation, in one of the most storied hunting concessions in Zimbabwe. Unit 4 is operated out of Geoff Broome's old farm house situated on a bluff overlooking the primary hunting area. |

Mark Dewet is one of the top PHs in Africa and yet offers remarkable value in the hunts that he offers. Many are all inclusive, with charter airfare and trophy fees as part of the package. I have hunted twice with Mark, along with my wife and we plan on a third safari in 2010 for elephant. |

Because Matetsi Unit 4 is operated out of a former farm house, the accommodations are atypical of many safari camps. They are far from rustic and quite comfortable, but some might miss a more traditional camp. One benefit of the Matetsi area is that it is a short drive from the Victoria Falls Airport, thereby reducing costs.

Dad and I met Mark at the SCI Convention in January 2008. We were looking to find an outfitter/PH that was honest, forthright and did not put on a show just to get a booking. We found Mark tucked away in a corner and the first impression we received was fantastic. He made sure we understood what to expect as far as a hunt and trophy expectations. He does not blow smoke. Mark DeWet produced everything he said during my hunt. After hunting with two other outfits in Africa, I will only book hunts with Mark.

This was a seven-day hunt focusing on buffalo, and would be my first hunting safari in Africa. I had met our PH, Mark Dewet, at SCI and was favorably impressed with his attitude, "fair chase" philosophy and sense of humor - all important factors when choosing someone who will become your hunting companion for a week. Mark saw all of our expectations fulfilled. He was polite, professional, engaging, humorous, informative, accommodating, and never over-promised. You could not ask for a better PH. |

This was the perfect dangerous game safari for me and with the ideal PH. Few times in my life have my expectations been exceeded, but Mark Dewet managed to do just that. The following year, almost to the day, we had another great time with Mark, only this time in the Matetsi region of Zimbabwe.
