HUNTER COMMENTS AND/OR OUTFITTER/BOOKING AGENT REBUTTAL |

|
I bought this hunt at Houston/SCI fundraiser. My first experience with a donated hunt. My grown son & I attend the function and on a spur of the minute decision decided to bid on the hunt as it offered 7 days; 5 days hunting for 2 hunters & 2 observers; plus $2,000 in trophy fees. We had talked about someday taking his sons (my grandsons) to Africa; but felt it was a long way off.
We got caught up in the bidding & placed the top bid. When told of our luck, the boy's mother said, "I'm going too." So our party was now five; three adult observers & two first time Africa hunters (ages; 25 & 21).
We set off on July 9th & arrived in Jo'burg on the morning of July11th, and went to the Sand River Guest House to stay overnight and get over jet lag. Sand River is an excellent guesthouse and I personally recommend it highly when flying in or out of Joberg and you want to stay overnight.
The next morning Kuvhima Safaris picked us up for the four-hour drive to the lodge and hunting area. The trip was very interesting and the terrain varied.
First morning of hunt both boys had excellent representative Impala trophies on the ground before 11 am. The next day was more difficult hunting for Gemsbok as several spot & stalk opportunities proved that " It can be easy or difficult, but thats hunting."
One Gemsbok was taken after a long afternoon stalk and another wounded and tracked for several miles before dark came on. The P.H. felt confident they would find it dead in the morning due to the massive blood loss. Sure enough at first light the next day the wounded animal was finished off. The next day we traveled a short distance to another private concession that contained a large quantity of Blesbok. In 3 hours of hunting both boys & my son collected Gold Medal caliber Rowland Ward animals.
We returned to Kuvhima Safaris home base and spent the next two days searching for an exceptional record class Impala that my son decided he wanted to hunt. Several animals could have been taken; but the one exceptional trophy proved too elusive.
Day seven we departed for Kruger national park with Kuvhima personnel as our tour guide. Kruger is an exceptional value and a must see for the first time Africa visitor. Be sure to see the Elephant museum that features the all-time big tuskers of Kruger.
After two days in Kruger Park we returned to Sand River Guest House and retained one of their staff to take us sightseeing around Jo'Berg.
Tour stops included the Rowland Ward office & shop; an exceptional hunting store in Pretoria named "Safari & Outdoor" and visits to the new Anthropology museum and the South African Military museum.
I will personally recommend these facilities as more than worth a visit while in South Africa.
The following are some comments about our trip:
A) I was 'leery of a donated trip. Felt like we would not be treated same as paying customers. We could not have been treated nicer by the entire Kuvhima staff. We had the company owner as our P.H. and he went out of his way to insure we were "Happy Campers". This goes for the entire staff. Accommodations and food were excellent. Kuvhima is a well run, responsible, and ethical safari company.
I would recommend Kuvhima Safaris to anyone seeking an excellent plains game hunt with competent professionals.
B) Most of our airline fees were paid for by air miles. The result was a round about itinerary of some long six & nine hour layovers to get seats with air miles. (Using miles saved us over $6,000; so it was worth the inconvenience).
We bought a "Priority Pass" for airline lounges to spend time in the lounges with easy chairs, TV, newspaper, drinks, snacks, and a quite environment. Well worth the money not to spend long hours in the main terminals!
C) A nights layover at a guesthouse in Jo'berg lets you get over jet lag. Too many people rush on to the next flight or Safari area and feel bad for several days due to fatigue from overnight flights. Worth the time & money.
D) Using air miles is complex for overseas travel. We used Steve Turner of Travel with Guns to arrange all our ticketing. We paid him a small fee to handle and all worked out perfectly. Money well spent to let a pro handle complex ticketing (5 people traveling together, using air miles).
E) All together or group had 17 different aircraft changes: with five duffle bags. ALL baggage arrived as scheduled! Unbelievable!
Summary: A super trip. Seeing grandsons enjoy Africa for first time was an event I will long remember. Kuvhima Safaris truly did exceed our expectations and I recommend them highly.

HUNTER COMMENTS AND/OR OUTFITTER/BOOKING AGENT REBUTTAL |

|
I am just adding a quick note to my report that my wife and I had a wonderful time hunting with Andre and Yolanda Stewart of Kuvhima Safaris. Everything was perfect and couldn't have been better.
Upon arriving in Johannesburg, Andre and Yolanda were there to meet us and we collected our luggage and rifle. I used riflepermits.com to pre-approve my rifle before I even arrived. There were approximately 35-40 other hunters in the SAPS office trying to collect their weapons. A representative of riflepermits.com met me there with my completed permit. They then jumped me to the head of the line, where all I had to do was open the rifle case and verify the serial number and get a signature by the SAPS officer and I was done. I was out of the office in 2-3 minutes. Andre mentioned that he had never been in and out of the airport so fast. The cost for riflepermit.com was $90, but well worth it. I have read "many" horror stories about the Johannesburg airport and wanted to get out as fast as possible.
We then drove to the Kuvhima lodge in the Limpopo region. The scenery was breathtaking. I hunted for a total of 6 days, and harvested 11 animals. One day, we came across a female and calf kudu, which had become tangled in a cattle fence. They were both exhausted from trying to free themselves. Andre and I untangled them, but they were too exhausted to run away. We got them in a position where they were sitting upright and left them alone so they could gain their strength. We told the concession owner and he looked for the animals the next day, but they evidently had recovered and walked away. This I will never forget.
The hunting was fantastic. All my animals will make the record book and the both the blesbok and red hartebeest were Gold Medal animals. The food was wonderful. The lodge staff was polite, courteous and did everything possible to make you feel completely pampered. I don't get treated that well at home. The rooms were spacious and immaculate. There was a water hole off the back deck where you can watch animals come to drink in the evening. It was always entertaining just to watch and see what would come next.
After hunting, Andre took us to spend two days touring Kruger National Park. We saw elephants, buffalo, and lions, along with tons of regular animals. I took nearly 2,000 pictures. The highlight of the Kruger trip is when we had three young male lions surround our vehicle. They were paying more attention to a group of elephants, than to us.
After Kruger, we left Andre and Kuvhima Safaris and flew to Cape Town for three days of sightseeing. We visited the Cape of Good Hope, took a boat ride out to an island to observe a bunch of seals, an spent an afternoon at the boulders penguin colony. We took a tram ride up to Table Mountain, went to an aquarium and an arboretum. We spent a lot of time at the waterfront area of Cape Town where there are lost of restaurants and shopping. We stayed in a B&B which was newly remodeled in a building built by the Dutch in 1771, and spent a Saturday morning at an African craft bazaar.
Our entire trip to Africa was perfect. No "glitches or gotcha's" along the way. I have no reservations at all recommending Andre Stewart and Kuvhima Safaris to anyone. You will have a fantastic time.
