Condition Comments: |
There was a very good population of both elephant and buffalo. We passed on some animals within the first 4 to 5 days of the hunt which were older and bigger than those which I ended up taking on the 11th and 15th days of the hunt. However, we had a great time spotting and especially tracking buffalo and getting close to animals in the thick brush. It was a great experience hunting with a 35 year old PH who was capable and enjoyed tracking and stalking animals. Many days we walked 6 to 8 miles and a few days we walked 12 to 14 miles. The temperatures were warm (85 to 90 degrees) on most days. We did have thunder showers several days and nights and the grass was very wet some mornings. My hunting shoes were high basketball sneakers and they served me very well. It may be good to have two pair because some days they became very wet; however, they dried quickly. We normally hunted from daylight until dark. We drove many two track roads while hunting elephants looking for tracks and/or animals. We saw a brown hyena, spotted hyena, lions (several times), zebra, giraffe, steenbok, duiker, civet cat, impala, roan, kudu, mongoose, black mambas, puff adder and many, many species of birds. The hunt was filmed by Stoney who lives in South Africa. He did a fine job and took much footage of many animals we stalked close to during the hunt. |

Both United and SAA did a fine job. Botswana delayed a flight departing Maun, Botswana nearly three hours which caused many, many problems. I would avoid flying on Botswana Air again if it could be avoided. |

SUMMARY
REMARKS |
 |
| Problems
of Hunt: |
We encountered very few problems. We had a flat tire. We had an over heating problem one time. No major issue. |
| Highlights
of Hunt: |
Seeing so many animals very close and having the opportunity to enjoy it with a very good PH, a very good videographer and an excellent bushman tracker. |
| Equipment
Recommendations: |
My rifle used was a CZ 550 in a .458 Lott which was glass bedded. It has an Aimpoint 2 mil red dot 9000L sight mounted in 30MM tally rings and it performed very well for this type of hunting. My hand loads were 500 grain Barnes solids and 500 grain TSX bullets. Both the bullets performed very well on both animals. |
| Would You
Recommend This Hunt to a Friend? |
yes |
| Why? |
Everything was well organized. The PH knew the country very well. He used the trackers to their full advantage. We hunted full days and the PH did not pressure me to shoot the first animals we encountered. I would certainly hunt again with Kgori if Frans could be my PH. |

Although we did not see any 60 or 80 pound elephant we did see shootable bull elephant nearly every day. We saw one buffalo which we estimated had a 44 inch spread; however, it was not an old bull with a fully developed boss. We did see and old buffalo with a very deep drop on the horns with a great fully developed boss and it was estimated to be 39 inches in width. This was on the second day and we had him standing broadside at 50 yards. We passed on this bull and it shall be a great trophy for another hunter. There are some very nice buffalo in NG43 in April and May. It was a great hunt with good people and my memories of this time spent with this group of people shall forever be cherished. One day we were filming two lions lying behind some brush from the back of the land rover. The videographer asked if we could move off the truck slowly and walk a few steps to get a better view of the lions. The PH slowly exited the cab of the truck and the videographer and I slowly climbed down to the ground. We slowly began walking to get a better view of the two lions lying in the brush. Suddenly a male lion came charging out of the brush toward us from a different direction and growled. He stopped at approximately 30 yards. Needless to say - this male lion received our full attention and we quickly were back on the truck. These type of experiences shall remain with me forever. It is exciting being in Africa where there are animals and reptiles which are able to place fear within the human being. Great memories!
