Problems of Hunt: Highlights of Hunt: We walked into the bear at approximately 25 yards from Joe. When the bear moved to a position 15 yards ahead of Joe and above him, he dropped to the ground and yelled "Take him" instructing me to fire over his head where I double-lunged the bear from 40 yards (Joe was 25 yards in front of me and the bear 15 yards from him). Major Game Animals Taken: Bear, Brown - Availability: Scarce - Trophy Size: Nine foot male. Skull approximately 26 inches (17 inches by 9 inches). Game Sought But Not Taken: Game Condition Comments: Spring arrived very late! Many bears possibly were still in their dens. However, one hunter in a camp near me saw 18 brown bears in five days and killed a 10-foot bear with a 28-inch skull.

Problems of Hunt: None really other than bags left in Anchorage by Penn Air. Highlights of Hunt: Making the two mile stalk on bear and getting to 35 yards for a shot. Equipment Recommendations: Warm clothing, good rain gear and fly weight hip boots. You need to be in good physical shape. Would You Recommend This Hunt to a Friend? Yes Why? Joe Klutsch runs a first class operation and has an excellent area in which he hunts. The guides were excellent and very experienced with brown bears.

Problems of Hunt: Cooler spring weather kept bears in dens. We still saw one to three bears per day usually smaller than eight feet. Highlights of Hunt: Stalking a 7 1/2 foot bear for several hours and deciding to let it go on day three. Got my bear on day eight. Equipment Recommendations: Good metal frame backpack. Cabela ankle fit hip boots and goretex and wool pants. Would You Recommend This Hunt to a Friend? Yes Why? I would remind him that our camp had four bears for six hunters and another camp had six bears for 20 hunters. (First eight days hunt)
