SUMMARY REMARKS
Problems of Hunt: None. Superb in every respect.
Highlights of Hunt: Taking a great lion as well as a nyala were highlights. In addition, I'd long wanted to take a jackal, and it turned out that my PH John Tinley also had a predator control business on the side. He set up a great jackal hunt, calling the animal in himself. It was great fun.
Equipment Recommendations:
Would You Recommend This Hunt to a Friend? yes
Why? Wintershoek has an abundance of game, well looked-after and apparently not over-hunted. The staff were first-rate and always willing to please - they stressed over my hunt more than I did! In addition, in my view the PH makes or breaks a hunt, and my PH was first rate. Lastly, if you stay away from the glamor game, the trophy fees are quite reasonable.

Wingtershoek is a first rate - I would even say luxury - camp, and I was very well taken care of. The staff are some of the best I have found. The owner was in camp almost every day and took a personal interest in everyone's hunt. There is no pretension here - only, it seemed to me - good, honest people who seem to be committed to making sure your hunt is the best possible. When I was having some trouble finding a nyala, they were more worried about it than I was! The animals are behind high fences, as in most of South Africa, but the property is large enough that most animals likely live and die on the property and not come into contact with the fences. There is an abundance of game, and it appears to be well taken care of. The property covers a broad range of topographies, from plains to rocky hills and higher plateaus. There are enough species that it would be difficult to get bored in 10 days, and if you did, they apparently have other properties nearby! I spent a lot in trophy fees, but then I took 20 animals in 10 days. We worked hard to get them, staying in the field in some cases rather than returning to camp for lunch. It would be easy to have a very enjoyable hunt and spend far less, particularly if you stay away from lions! Lastly, I will repeat myself. The PH makes or breaks a hunt. I consider myself very lucky to have ended up with John Tinley. John worked hard to find the game I wanted, whether it was glassing for long periods of time, or climbing hills to get a better view of surrounding areas. John was looking for older, fully mature animals, and he wasn't about to let me take younger specimens, even if they had large horns. I respect that in a PH. He was also relentless in tracking game I had shot - a couple of which I have to admit were not all that well shot, unfortunately - and we recovered everything. He seemed to have an almost uncanny intuition about where the animals would go. He was patient when I screwed up, and he had a great sense of humor. I enjoyed my time on the back of the truck, on the ground stalking, and in camp. Overall, it was a great experience and I would have no hesitation in returning to Wintershoek, particularly if I could have John as my PH again.

ADDITIONAL HUNTER COMMENTS AND/OR OUTFITTER/BOOKING AGENT REBUTTAL
I hunted buffalo there because Adam Clements failed to deliver my buffalo trophy from Tanzania, due to problems created by his outfit and my broker in Brazil. I never filed a negative report about this because of my broker's responsibility but the facts remain true. I have extensive e-mail correspondence about them. This experience in the RSA finally cleared my mind, which was particularly depressed because I am not a rich man and must save for years to go to Africa.

SUMMARY REMARKS
Problems of Hunt: None.
Highlights of Hunt: Watching my two PH's farm manager Blondie Keathem an two trackers take one and one-half hours to cover 300 yards the next morining to where my dead leopard lay and realizing that he was as large as the PHs said he would be.
Equipment Recommendations: Used my 106 with 180 grain sierras at approximately 50 yards and it went through chest and shoulder leaving little blood trail. One PH said he'd rather I had used a 220 grain round noxe.
