ADDITIONAL HUNTER COMMENTS AND/OR OUTFITTER/BOOKING AGENT REBUTTAL
This is an excellent trip for a hunter and a non-hunting spouse. The hunting is challenging enough, without wearing you out and the overall experience is first class from start to finish.

The basic hunt cost is $ 4,950.00 for a hill stag. Most folks, but not all, opt to upgrade this to an estate stag for an additional $2,500.00 for up to 12 pts. After that, you can further update the trophy size for an additional $300.00 per point above 12. ( Note: the upgrade is actually an additional trophy fee and does not include a Hill Stag AND an estate stag. It only includes an estate stag). The outfitter will completely clarify this, in advance, if there are any questions. The Estate Stags are obviously much bigger than the Hill Stags. They are easier to hunt than a free ranging ones, but are as challenging as you want to make the hunt. They can wear you out if want, or anything in between. If you want to hunt a hill Stag, it can definitely be a challenging hunt. After your hunt is complete, you can join the non-hunters for touring and sight-seeing or additional hunting.

There are additional free ranging and estate hunting opportunities if the client has the time and/or desire to hunt additional animals. Again, the outfitter can cover these opportunities to any interested parties.

What makes this, I believe, a truly unique opportunity is the option to take a spouse along on a trip that is equally structured for her entertainment (I admit I am an old fashioned chauvinist, but you can change the roles around if required). While I was out hunting, the ladies were out touring and seeing the sights of the Scottish Highlands with Danielle Grosse (Michael's wife). This is not an ad hoc, "let's go see what we can see" outing. The day trips are well planned, interesting, and structured outings. The transportation is provided in a large touring van, all admissions to castles, Old St Andrews Golf Club, and other venues are included as well as all meals during the tours. Danielle acts as the tour guide and she knows her way around.

The other aspect of this trip that makes it special is what else is included. The above pricing includes airfare to Scotland, lodging at the Lands of Loyal's Estate/Hotel (first class), all meals (probably four star), and the usual trophy care and processing. Finally, in addition to the above services, Michael is a licensed importer and will import your trophies to the States for a fraction of normal import and shipping fees.

Last, but not at all least, the information provided before the hunt and as you plan the hunt is by far the best we have ever experienced. Both Danielle and Michael will answer any and all questions and leave absolutely nothing to be guessed at. They cover before and after the hunt logistics, firearms, trophy care, touring, food and beverage needs, insurance and everything in between. They have been doing this as a couple for 17 years and really do have it down pat. After hunting all over North America, South and Central America, and Africa, this was one of the more relaxing and enjoyable trips I have taken and definitely the best hunting trip I have ever taken my wife on. The only complaint is we are now looking to do this same type hunt in other countries and have had no success to date in doing so. We will keep looking.

Anyone interested in any aspect of our experience is welcome to call me at any time.

GAME DESCRIPTION
Major Game Animals Taken: Deer, Red - Availability: Abundant - Trophy Size: Scottish Estate Stag; SCI Gold Medal
Deer, Red - Availability: Average - Trophy Size: Scottish Hill Stag; 10-point, plus broken 11th
Deer, Fallow - Availability: Average - Trophy Size: Average
Game Sought But Not Taken:
Game Condition Comments: Estate animals were abundant and well managed for quality trophies. They are Scottish blood animals but provided with better feed and supplements. Nevertheless, they are classified as "estate" or mixed blood for SCI purposes. The "high fence" was only 6 feet, so essentially the hunt was fair chase on a very large estate. Wild stags and fallow deer were generally available as well, but not like the estate. The stags are found in herds in the highlands with no boundaries. The fallow were found at lower elevations. Both are of smaller trophy class than estate, of course, but were fine animals with several to choose from. Stalks were modest once the herds were spotted. Basically, though, Lady Luck was with me as I was successful on a good "hill" stag and fallow in one afternoon.

Total: $0

SUMMARY REMARKS
Problems of Hunt: None. All was extremely well organized. As mentioned, I got lucky to take an exceptional estate stag in the morning and then a good hill stag and wild fallow deer in the afternoon.
Highlights of Hunt: Taking all three in one day! Stalking red deer in the Scottish Highlands with beautiful scenery and rainbows overhead. Having my wife with me and then touring the Scottish castles after the hunt.
Equipment Recommendations: Taking a firearm to Scotland is next to impossible, but the guides provide quality guns. My guide had a Blaser R93 which is what I hunt with so I was right at home!
Would You Recommend This Hunt to a Friend? yes
Why? Tremendous value -- where else can you take red and fallow deer in Europe for this price? Michael and Danielle Grosse personally host these hunts and associated touring. They are wonderful.

ADDITIONAL HUNTER COMMENTS AND/OR OUTFITTER/BOOKING AGENT REBUTTAL
This was my second Scottish hunt with Michael and Danielle Grosse. (The first was a Spring Roe Deer hunt at the Royal Deeside Estate, see separate hunt report.) They are wonderful hosts and I highly recommend them. They have hosted this stag hunt/tour for well over a decade and have it down pat! The hunter and observer are picked up in Edinburgh and taken to Alyth where the accommodations are at a country Scottish inn which was absolutely lovely, comfortable and charming. The food was excellent and the service impeccable. The estate hunting is within an hour's drive from the inn and equally well organized. Michael and his Scottish guide (Steve Cooksley) know the land and animals well and tailor the hunt to the hunter's (and observer's) abilities and desires. I wanted to upgrade from the basic 12-point deer and after spotting a group of stags and stalking to them and getting set-up, Michael and Steve pointed out three of the group of about 10 animals in that class. I selected the 19-pointer. Having been very lucky to conclude the estate hunt early, I went with Steve to several properties in the Highlands to try to find wild "hill" stags and fallow deer. We spotted a large herd of the former bedded in the heather and made an approach. Getting up on them completely unseen or detected, we glassed them to find the largest one. After waiting for him to clear, the shot from the Blaser found it's mark. We then looked for fallow deer on the way back to the inn. Having seen many groups of does and fawns, we finally spotted a nice buck just before the end of shooting light. Again, a nice stalk (yes, crawling in the grass to get set-up) we again arrived unseen and undetected. Another medium-range shot and I concluded a great day of hunting in the Highlands. My wife went with me this time and joined me on the Estate Stag hunt. Following the successful day of hunting, we toured several Scottish castles and venues for two days with Danielle as our guide. That was a real bonus -- being able to see the local sights, learn the history and have a guide who knows it well. As I mentioned, this is a great trip/hunt for a spouse or significant other even if they are not hunters. Michael and Danielle are great hosts and everything was just great. Highly recommended.

Michael and Danielle Grosse go out of their way on these hunts to ensure hunters and families have a good time. This is a unique hunt - not many outfitters do Scottish hunting. Very unique experience with the formality of Scottish Highlands Estate gamekeepers. I'd recommend it for the experience and the unique trophies.

ADDITIONAL HUNTER COMMENTS AND/OR OUTFITTER/BOOKING AGENT REBUTTAL
I exchanged this hunt for a Scottish hillstag hunt that I could not go on. Mike was very easy to work with and rather than just take my deposit he allowed me to trade the hunt for something that I could do. He allowed my cousin to come and stay a couple of days and did not charge anything extra. This was extra special as my cousin has never hunted before and he was able to observe me taking the buck. Mike also refused to take any tips as he feels that the owner should not be tipped. The deer are very small bodied in this region so you have to be careful when field judging them.
