6 Hunters on this hunt. We all had a great time. Meals were excellent. Scenery is outstanding and animals are abundant. The Guides were very good, worked hard and kept the hunting fun. This was my 10th year in a row to hunt Indian Head. For an exotic hunt this is top notch.

This was an excellent fair chase hunt with the animals having the advantage. The dry hills and cliffs, where the aoudad live appeared to suite them exactly. The 10,000 acre, Rio Grande River Ranch is very large and it is a real "hunt" to find the animals. Facilities are first class and very comfortable. Staff is pleasant and a joy to spend a week with. Our guide, Darin, was patient and professional and was an excellent hunting partner. |

I flew into San Antonio and rented a car. Drove to the ranch (about 4 hours) and arrived in a thunderstorm. This is west Texas desert country. They normally get about 22 inches of rain per year. They had 34 inches just before I got there and another 3 to 4 inches my first night on the ranch.
The following three days we had sporadic periods of rain that kept the ground slippery. The Aoudad hunting was tough due to the muddy conditions and the rain that kept the animals down deep in the canyons of cypress trees and brush. We probably saw 50 animals during this period but the largest ram we could find was 27 inches. That is a respectable trophy but I was holding out for a 30-inch grand daddy. This was not an unrealistic expectation since rams up to 34 inches have been taken from this property. I just ran out of time.
I took a sika deer and a chocolate fallow to fill out my collection of all three of the fallow color phases. Both made book minimums.
The entire staff of the ranch worked very hard to help me get my trophies. This ranch is a fair chase operation. It has 10,000 acres of desert and canyons that are high fenced on three sides. It contains some of the finest Addax and Scimitar Horned Oryx herds in the world. The black buck population is good with a number of trophy males available.
The eats were great. Ramon, the chef, has a different surprise gourmet delight for us at every meal. Laurent's latest plaything is a Laser Shot Home theater-shooting simulator that also shows movie videos. Many a great shots was done each evening after dinner. It was great fun.
Indianhead Ranch is a first class operation. The accommodations were great with private rooms and bath for each hunter. It was great to get a hot shower at the end of the day. A maid took care of the rooms each day and clean linens were provided.
I do not hesitate to recommend this operation to other hunters.
