Was traveling to Maui for a vacation and initially wanted to hunt that island for convenience. Attempted to book with a couple of outfits on Maui one that had been written up with a positive story in a glossy bi-monthly hunting club magazine. They were completely unresponsive to my emails. Found Fishers operation on the web. He personally responded the same day and followed-up with very timely phone calls. No question was left unanswered. Fisher suggested a two-day hunt on Lanai instead of on Maui, as they have access to a very large area with free-range axis deer. Initially I wasnt too interested, but Im very glad I followed his recommendation. He picked me up at the condo at about 5:30 am and drove to the ferry in Lahaina. After a pleasant boat trip and short drive we were in the hunting area around 9:30 10:00 am. Decided to look the area over on foot before lunch. An unexpected rain storm blew in (the island had been very dry for months) and the deer started moving - literally everywhere. I was surprised by the number of deer that were moving reminded me of herds of black wildebeest or impala in Africa. In the next couple of hours we saw easily over 200 animals, including some very nice bucks that were coming into and past the area where Fisher had us set up. Two bucks that started moving early were exceptional and I decided that I would be very happy with either of them although Fisher let me know that there were bigger animals in the area and that we might have a chance later in the afternoon or on the second day. Im not a gambler. The buck will easily score in the high silver medal category for SCI. We took several pounds of meat back to the condo to BBQ that week and froze some to take back to the mainland. Delicious! The area we hunted was easily accessible by vehicle and the walking was very easy also & pretty flat with lots of chest-high brush. Additional notes: A friend was hunting Mouflon on the island at the same time with one of Patricks guides and was very happy with the outcomes. Also, there are evidently some developing opportunities for other exotics that are not on Patricks web site. If youre heading to Hawaii and would like to blend in a hunt with a business trip or family vacation you need to be talking with Patrick.

Excellent, really enjoyed the terrain, the game was quite impressive, and my guide was easy going and highly knowledgeable. Comfortable vehicle for the day. |
| Physical Condition: |
Ran a 10K late 2010 so in fine shape but not great shape I'd say. No issues getting up and down the steep hillside. |

Booked the hunt with Pat Fisher, excellent email and phone communication leading up to the trip. Seamless payment through PayPal. My guide was Kevin Nakamaru, excellent at what he does, very patient (no pressure to shoot, he was prepared to wait until dusk if need be for me to get the billy I wanted) and much fun to be with. We took the goat pretty early and my first round was a bit aft, Kevin was on the game and found the billy in some tough terrain, without him I would have lost the animal. We field dressed on the side of the mountain and since we had time, went and viewed game for an hour or so. Really nice day out and an excellent hunt. Highly recommended outfitter, they're the only ones I'll use in Hawaii from here on out.

Once again, my thanks to The Hunting Report for the information and recommendations for a good outfitter on Hawaii. Patrick Fisher received top billing from The Hunting Report and I found out why. I had a very good hunt with Pat and was impressed with his hunting areas and the fact he judges a hunter's physical and hunting ability and guides them to areas suitable to their abilities. He knows the animals and the country they live in. His care of the meat and capes was the best I have ever experienced. I was very impresseed with his fellow hunting guides, Steve Gelakoski onLani and Keven on the Big Island. Pat is a very dedicated outfitter and has a very nice family. He is the best pick to guide your hunt in Hawaii.

I was able to hunt one of the ranches that Pat has hunting rights on, as this was a landowner tag. The ranch itself is beautiful, with rolling hills and many valleys. Not exactly what I was expecting for whitetail country, as most of it is fairly open. You can see deer from a good distance, but there is usually enough cover for a good stalk. The camp is well set up with small cabins and a large fire pit and cooking area. Evenings are spent around the fire, with good food, good beer and good conversation. The hunt involves driving from camp to the general area, getting out and hiking into the right spot. The deer are all over the ranch, both in the valleys as well as up top, so keeping your eyes open is essential. Most of the deer are blacktail, with a very good population of whitetail. Whitetail are found in pockets on the ranch, but we did see the deer moving from one area to another. Be prepared to shoot anywhere from 60 yards to 320 yards (that's what I needed to do as the day was ending). Very good optics are a must as this can be an early morning or late afternoon hunt. We saw bucks all day long, but for the most part the big boys don't hang out to get a suntan. Pat has the ranch figured out very well and knows where the deer will be at, but is always on the look to make a move somewhere else should the opportunity present itself. He is very fun to hunt with and is very easy going and is willing to change up if things are not working well for the client (this helps with us older guys!). The hunt is 1X1, and the ranch is yours for the hunt. I'm booked with Pat for a Hawaiian ibex hunt next month with a muzzleloader. I will be returning to the Oregon hunt with Pat for blacktail in the next couple of years. Overall, a very fine hunt with a very fine outfitter.
