My husband Mark and I both hunted for Red Stag at Stravon. The cabin was beautiful with french doors looking out upon a waterfall. Jim Gibson was an awesome guide, very knowledgeable and had a great sense of humor. We saw a lot of Red Stag on the property along with fallow deer, white tail deer, chamois, wallabies and a lot of birds. This was an awesome trip that will forever be remembered by both of us. I really like the fact that they own their own taxidermy business making it really easy to have our trophies mounted and sent to us. It was a beautiful area and we couldn't have asked for a better hunt with them. |

Make sure that you bring really good boots. My husband thought his boots were adequate and as it turned out, they were awful. Invest in good ones and have a great hunt. |

The facilities are beautiful if you stay at the main lodge and just as awesome if you stay at the cabin in Stravon. Shane and Vanessa Johnston are incredibly nice, Jim Gibson is like meeting an old friend, Grant and James with Calibre taxidermy are very friendly and perform exceptional work. I can't wait to receive my mounted stag in the future. I'm sure it will be as beautiful as our accommodations. |

My husband and I decided many years ago if we ever had the opportunity, we both wanted to go to New Zealand. This was our dream trip and when we first started looking at visiting, it was initially to travel and do tourist activities. My husband decided that he wanted to hunt stag while we were there. I did some checking and found Four Seasons Safaris on-line and decided to make contact. We booked two stag hunts for 3/11 - 3/15/13. Our guide, Jim Gibson picked us up at the hotel in Christchurch and the adventure began. We headed to Stravon where we got on a Polaris Ranger and drove another 50 minutes to the cabin at the end of the property. WOW! The rustic but comfortable cabin is situated on a hill overlooking a waterfall. What a view! That afternoon we started looking for stag. Due to the fog, it was hard to see any on the higher hills, but we went down toward the ranch and found some spectacular stags but larger than what we were looking for. We had a great dinner and visited with Jim about what to expect in the next few days. The second day we also experienced fog and drizzle but Jim located an exceptional 6x7 stag at the bottom of a ravine. Jim videotaped the hunt for me and I got my stag. The terrain was very steep and thick but we made it to the stag and I was more excited after seeing him close up. Jim was very adept in caping him out for me and getting us out of the ravine and back to the Ranger. It was a calorie burning hike but Jim was always very positive and upbeat. The fourth day, my husband found a nice stag very close to camp. He made an excellent shot and then the work began again. The stag slid down the steep hill and finally stopped short of falling into the creek. Jim went to work tying him to a tree and caping the stag out. He was always very positive and a lot of fun to talk to. We took our stags down to the taxidermist owned by Four Seasons and met with Grant and James. They were awesome! They explained everything that needed to be done and were in the process of performing some beautiful mounts for other clients. Even though they were very busy, they were very friendly and welcomed our questions and comments and invited us to stay and watch them work. I would return and hunt again with them. The entire operation is first class and all of the personnel, from the owners to the workers on the ranch were very friendly, knowledgeable and fun to be around. |

The outfitter was first class, professional and fun. They did what they promised with the hunt the food and the accommodations. The country is beautiful and has many species of big game to hunt. I was concerned about filling tags but quite the contrary, I had many choices of Stags to take. I am very happy with the game I took.

Great hunt. Would recommend Four Seasons Safaris to anyone that is wanting to go to New Zealand for a high quality hunt. They take care of everything and do an excellent job. Highlight was on foot Tahr hunt. My wife accompanied me on this trip and although she didn't hunt, she enjoyed the comfortable accommodations that Four Seasons Safaris provided.

All together, it was an excellent experience and I took my wife along who participated in some of the hunting/scouting and took advantage of the golf/spa resort at Terrace Downs. One of the best options available for Stag and Tahr.

If you are looking for an excellent New Zealand hunting and sightseeing experience Four Seasons Safaris will be hard to beat. If you are in good shape and want to hunt tahr and chamois on foot they will do that. I chose to use the helicopter. They do everything they can to get you quality trophies and to make your experience enjoyable.
