GAME DESCRIPTION
Major Game Animals Taken: Springbok - Availability: Abundant - Trophy Size: Good
Game Sought But Not Taken:
Game Condition Comments: This species has only been available for about three years as qualified by SCI and would wild life scientists astava wild life animals. At least 5000 years of unique species has been certified. This is a special interest hunt if you want a capana species and want to experience this diverse island and enjoy some tourism and have a culinary experience. You will get a boc, the only question is quality and there are good ones there. Dont shoot too soon. Investigation would reveal some limited hunting for other things, but they can be hunted elsewhere at less cost. DNA testing has revealed that the bocs wild animals. The hunt society culls immediately any ferals seen. All bos are the same dark color. Fire looking. They are not feral goats.

Comments on Costs:

Spanish hunting is not cheap. The quality is excellent as are most of the people involved. Great effort is made to maintain quality. In Mallonca, wildlife officials came to examine and test the trophy. There is concentration on paesmuafion of the species.

For me, an additional three days touring Mallonca justified the cost. There is so much to see - rent a car on day tours from hotel.

ADDITIONAL HUNTER COMMENTS AND/OR OUTFITTER/BOOKING AGENT REBUTTAL

Dear Hunting Report,

Enclosed is a short story of my recent, great hunting time in Spain, in November 2011. In December, I hunted a do-it-yourself, walk-in safari in the Cameroon through Cam Greig. I am still waiting for Cam to reply, once he returns from the Congo. I also hunted in Pakistan with Kaan Karakaya this month, February, 2012. I will send you hunt reports and stories on both of these hunts as well.

Having hunted with Fernando Saiz in Spain hack in his early days in 1987, 1990, 1991, l 992, and 1998, each time for a single species, with a couple of bonus wild boar, I was wondering if I would ever get back to Spain! Then at the 2011 SCI and Grand Slam/Ovis conventions, Fernando and I were reminiscing about our long past, and suddenly I was going back to Spain, this time with the opportunity to hunt several species.

My wife, Sue, had accompanied me on several of the past trips, always enjoying the many other times that Spain has to offer. This time, she would he going into the mountains with me, her first time to experience mountain hunting. Her previous hunts were always African hunts, doing the filming (she was born in Zimbabwe).

My guide was to be Juan Mitjans, whom l first met hack in 1987 when he was 11 years old, vowing to be a hunter! Juan was excellent; everything ran like clockwork, and the hunting, although at times challenging, was fantastic success-wise, and a lot of fun at the same time. In l2 days, we started the hunt in the northwest of Spain in the Ancares region for the Cantabrian chamois. Windy, even blowing snow, so much so that one time, in cresting a ridge, the wind picked Sue up and sent her backwards into the bushes! No harm, and eventually I had an easy shot on a nice male.

Driving to Valencia province in the east of Spain, the game keepers met us before daylight, and the hunt was on the Meula de Cortes for a mouflon sheep. This was more rolling hills and heavy brush, with several rocky outcrops, perfect for mouflon. I was extremely pleased with my 125 SCI-point ram!

Great meals, great accommodations, interesting sites, along the way, we arrived in the city of Granada, a city of much history. Eventually we toured around the city and palace of El Alhambra, but first the South Eastern ibex awaited. This hunt was high in the mountains of de Medio Ambiente, in the Province of Andalucia. The ibex were scattered, and elusive. After some time, I spotted a monster ibex, but he and his nannies were alerted and off they went. Up and down the slopes, sometimes the same slope, but this guy was worth it. Juan could not believe his size, and believe me, Juan knows the size at any distance. Finally, when the ibex were far away and down in cover, feeling safe, we made the stalk, and a long shot put him down. More stalking to finally get a finishing shot! Wow, over 84 centimeters; Juan could not believe it. This is probably the most photographed ibex ever! That night, walking the streets of Granada, eating several different food offerings from the many street restaurants, a great feeling of satisfaction set in.

But it was not over. The Ronda ibex was to be hunted at La Fresneda, near Malaga. These mountains were really steep, had to be side-hilled all the way. Ibex were there, as the binoculars finally would confirm, but always near the top, usually better than 45 degree angles. Finally, we decided that I should try for an unexpecting male, so, shooting long and steeply uphill, I made a good shot, and he was down. Now to get to him. But a nice male, completing my quest since 1987 for all all of the capra species of Spain,

More great eating, we finally returned to Fernandos estate at Pinos Altos, an estate that has been in his family for 700 years! As luck would have it, I was even able to join a group for a little driven, red-legged partridge hunting! Great sport, but my best excuse was that the borrowed shotgun from Fernando had a short stock! A highlight for me at Pinos Altos was the mounted South Eastern Ibex that Prince Abdorreza of Iran shot on his last hunt, before his passing one week later. It was huge, but my south eastern was very, very close, in size and shape.

For great, great hunting, and great site-seeing, Spain and Fernando are the best, especially if you take your wife, because she with then always support your hunting. Every trip that I have made has been most satisfying!
