ADDITIONAL HUNTER COMMENTS AND/OR OUTFITTER/BOOKING AGENT REBUTTAL

Comments originally filed in February 2012:

I have just completed the Mexican Three Deer slam with Alberto (Beto Jr.) Valdes Fisher. The outfitter and ranch was everything that you said he would be. The entire experience was excellent. l give him extremely high marks for professionalism, ethics, and effort. The food was plentiful and good. Please look at my hunt report for the rest.

I highly recommend this outfitter and his ranch to anyone wanting the three deer slam. I also harvested two Javelina during the stay. One can visit the Alamo and the river walk in San Antonio as a side trip that is well worth the extra time.

Thank you very kindly again for the tip and reference for El Rancho Chupadera Outfitters. They are the real deal. (See article 2410 elsewhere in this database for the complete story on this hunt opportunity.)

Sincerely

RPMusselman

Letter from RP Musselman to Barbara Crown, February 9, 2014:

As you know I wrote a glowing report on Alberto Valdez Fisher, a Mexican outfitter, on hunting deer on the Rancho el Chupadero ranch in Coahuila. I am very dismayed at having to report to you that I have not received my trophies after two years. He enticed me to use his taxidermists in Monterrey, Mexico. I have made dozens of calls, emails, and letters to Mr. Fisher. He told me it cost too much to ship one head of four deer to me. He has told me his family situations come first and his business second. He stated he was too busy. He refuses to answer his phone or return messages. I have asked for the name and telephone number of the taxidermists and he refuses to give it to me. I can only conclude the trophies were never sent to him.

There should be four deer and two javelina skulls. I cannot trust this man's word, and I would advise anyone to be very careful in dealings with this outfitter.

------

E-mail from Alberto Fisher to RP Musselman, February 25, 2014:

Dear RP,

I apologize greatly for not getting back to you sooner! I have been swamped with work at the Ranch and I just arrived and saw your emails. I saw the taxidermist last week and he was not done with the mounts! I put a lot of pressure on him and told him that I needed your trophies as soon as freaking possible or I was going to sue him in Mexico. I have already paid for all the taxidermy work myself and they should be sent to me soon. He has the capes tanned and antlers mounted on the forms so he has mad progress. On another note, while that is is progress, in order for you to see that I am taking action and resolving your business, I want to send you the deer I already have mounted, the antlers from the other Carminis and the javelina skulls. However, in order for that to happen I need two things from you: 1) A business address where the trophies can be delivered during business hours and, 2) I need a POA (Power of attorney) that states that Alberto Valdes Fisher is authorized to expedite the importation of your trophies into the USA. This is a new regulation from USFWS and CBP. You should not have a problem getting one, any lawyer should be able to make it for you, get it, sign it and please send it to me ASAP. My address is: 1825 Hillcrest Blvd., Eagle Pass, TX, 78852. With this you will help me tremendously in helping you get your trophies home. Believe me, I want to put this past me and again, I apologize for the time it is taking. Unfortunately, I wrongly recommended to you the best taxidermist I know, but he is an artist and you know how those guys are. I will keep pressuring him to deliver and I will get you your mounts. Please do not proceed with the complaints as it would be bad for business and additional headaches for both of us.

------

E-mail from RP Musselman to Alberto Fisher, February 26, 2014:

you will send them to Animal Artistry 1190 Terminal Way Reno, Nevada 89502 At the time of shipment call me from UPS or whom ever so I can pay by phone or email to them. Thank you. rp

------

E-mail from Alberto Fisher to RP Musselman, February 26, 2014:

Sounds like plan, RP! Thanks for you time and best regards

------

E-mail from RP Musselman to Barbara Crown, April 7, 2014:

Beto contacted me and wanted a POA to send the capes and heads to the USA. I agreed and send him one with instructions to send to Mike Boyce in Reno. He said he would get back to me on the 16th of March. Again he refuses to ans the calls or emails. Sent one letter to his home which then came back to me. This is a very un professional outfitter in my mind. rp

------

E-mail from RP Musselman to Barbara Crown, May 30, 2014:

Still despite promises, no trophies. rp

------

E-mail from Alberto Fisher to Barbara Crown, October 10, 2014:

Dear Barbara!

Thank you for taking the time to write me! I hope you are doing well!

In regards to RP's trophies. This case is a bit more complicated and there is a very long story to it, but, I am working to resolve it ASAP as well. Again - the problem is the taxidermist! This is a different taxidermist than the one for Marks Shears' - In fact, I had to switch taxidermists because of the problems I had with Mark's mounts!

Well, Barbara, again, thank you for giving me a heads up and if I need to make any clarifications on the publication, please let me know and I will gladly do so! One thing is for sure, though, I am done with Mexican taxidermists doing work for US hunters - it's just too much trouble!

Thanks for your time and best regards!

------

E-mail from Barbara Crown to RP Musselman, October 11, 2014:

Gentlemen,

Just got this from Alberto and wanted to share it with you right away. Have either of you heard from him regarding what he says below about your trophies. Please let me know. Sincerely,

Barbara Crown

------

E-mail from RP Musselman to Barbara Crown, October 21, 2014:

Well, the pressure is true. However, the deal was this $1750 taxidermy and shipping in six months time. Why he would not send the first one right after it was done is unknown to me. Nothing makes sense. At one point Alberto told me his family came first and hunters second. Makes no sense. I gave him POA for the trophies. He offered once to pay for the taxidermy and shipping. I think I will take him up on it. I have no faith in any of it. One taxi maybe but two with problems!

SUMMARY REMARKS
Problems of Hunt: We did not encounter any problems other than the weather. The travel across the border was effortless and we encountered only one check point and they didn't even check our bags. There were no signs at all of the terror the media has painted about Mexico. In fact, I only saw one Federal Hummer the entire trip and that was in the big city of Piedras Negras. The outfitter had all of the necessary paperwork and licenses to make the border crossing back into the U.S. take less than 10 minutes during the inspection process.
Highlights of Hunt: My personal highlights were taking the pending SCI #4 Collared Peccary (Javelina) in the crossbow category at 20 yards with my Ten Point Phantom crossbow and also harvesting a Crooki Desert Mule Deer. The Crooki Mule deer is a sub-species of Desert Mule Deer only found in the Mexican State of Coahuila and usually only about 20 tags are issued annually.
Equipment Recommendations: It was cold and wet so a good base layer and good boots to keep you warm.
Would You Recommend This Hunt to a Friend? yes
Why? The guides were all very knowledagble of the free range 70,000 acre ranch we hunted on and the species and their travel patterns. All guides spoke enough English to communicate and anytime there was a communication factor, there was someone close by who could translate if needed. The guides worked tirelessly to make everyone's hunt the best that it could be. Alberto Valdes is a very detail oriented outfitter and had everything covered from start to finish which made a flawless Mexico Deer hunting trip. The food was incredible and with the exception of the weather, everything went as planned. Alberto is a 4th generation owner of his ranch and also an SCI Master Measurer as well as a member of the Monterrey, Mexico chapter of SCI.

ADDITIONAL HUNTER COMMENTS AND/OR OUTFITTER/BOOKING AGENT REBUTTAL
2 hunter, one observer, hunted with Alberto Valdes Fisher in Northern Mexico early January,2011.My son got 2 whitetails, no other game seen. When I asked to take capes/horns, I was told it was illegal. Alberto asked for a $500 deposit to have taxidermy work started in Mexico. Before leaving, I also paid Alberto $15,000 for a hunt for 4 hunters the next year.. Despite multiple call, emails, etc, the trophies were never returned. Due to the unstable drug situation, my fellow hunters were reluctant to go to Mexico, and I had to cancel the hunt for the following year. When I asked for a refund, allowable under the contract with 6 months notice, I was told Alberto had no money. Over the following year, the trophies never arrived, the money was never refunded for the future hunt, and Alberto told me I needed to send more money to find the trophies which were lost, I was told, in a flood .. I then contacted Barbara Crown of the Hunting Report Newsletter in July of this year..She offerred to intercede and negotiate a settlement between the 2 parties. Alberto agreed to return the horns/capes, and in exchange I would walk away from any attempt to collect the owed $15,000. Unfortunately, they were never sent, and my son is disappointed as that hunt may be the last one possible with his father. If any hunter is contemplating hunting Northern Mexico, I would be wary of this outfitter..If a hunt is in your future, I would steer clear of this operation.

E-mail from Alberto Fisher to Barbara Crown, October 10, 2014:

Dear Barbara! Thank you for taking the time to write me! I hope you are doing well! Well, I had a little trouble getting Mark's antlers from the taxidermist, but, I finally got them from him! I had not received a reply from USFWS on the new process for getting trophies into the US, so, when I saw your email, I decided to drive to Laredo, Tx today and go to the regional USFWS office to get the info! It turns out, when shipping trophies to clients after they leave, all you need is a simple letter stating they authorize you to send them their trophies. You don't need a notarized Power of Attorney after all - like they were telling me locally! Anyway, I finally sent Mark his antlers today and sent him an email letting him know - I copied you on that email as well....

------

E-mail from Mark Shears to Barbara Crown, October 11, 2014:

I have nothing from Alberto other than the mail to me which he copied to you yesterday. Everything you forwarded me is all news to me. The story sounds fishy. I would proceed with my hunt report. Enough is enough.

------

E-mail from RP Musselman to Mark Shears, October 21, 2014:

Barbara Crown tells me we share the same problem. Let me know if you actually get your trophies. rp

------

E-mail from Mark Shears to RP Musselman, October 21, 2014:

I got horns only ..got them yesterday after 2 year wait and filing negative hunt report . Barbara undoubtedly helped. No capes, although Alberto promises those next year...I am not planning on it. This and loss of 15k hunt deposit..no more Mexico or Alberto for me... PS. Thanks Barbara!! At least my son got his horns!!
