Airline Comments: Took the Frankfurt route to SA. I did not need permits and had no problems going through Frankfurth with my bow and arrow. SUMMARY REMARKS
Problems of Hunt: Poor shooting on kudu and black wildebeest, can't believe it happened, but all my doing. However, we did get the kudu and black wildebeest.
Highlights of Hunt: Harvesting a cape buffalo with bow and arrow. Actually making a great lung shot on one of the most dangerous animals in Africa with no one getting hurt or injured. This was my second attempt for cape buffalo. Enjoying the tenderloins from the cape buffalo.
Equipment Recommendations: Heavy arrow and bow to generate 85 lbs kinetic energy. Used Eclipse broadhead w/right bevel, 150 grains. Broadhead has slight bent but went through one rib into lungs. 16 inches penetration on a 29.5 inch arrow.
Would You Recommend This Hunt to a Friend? yes
Why? Dries Visser's Citadel is a 5 star facility, bow hunting only, quality animals, great accommodations and food, and great PH. Although there were 5 other bow hunters, we never bumped into each other while going to and from the hunting areas. Buffalo camp Alpetra is also a 5 star facility. I did not stay there overnight because I got my buffalo on the first day there. However, I saw quality nyala at the browsing on the Lodge's landscaping.

Great PH, Willem never showed any disgust w/my screw ups, he was very professional and courteous and made every effort to make the hunt sucessful. For example, one blind we used was not dark enough, so he put a portable blind within the permanent blind to darken the inside. From what I saw, the PHs were great too. Cold bottled water was always available in the field. Accomodations were very clean and comfortable. Good food. Vehicles were in good shape, able to haul the Cape Buffalo and gear in one trip. Camp areas were always clean. This was the last hunt of the season at Citadel but I did not see any slacking off that might be expected from the PH and staff. Clean clothes awaited you return in evening. Even though this was late in season at Citadel, there was quality animals to be found. Saw several 28-29 inch waterbuck and a few kudu that were easily over 56 inches. Pictures to follow, I am also doing a report on a whitetail and shiras moose hunt in Alberta that I did after the Africa hunt.

ADDITIONAL HUNTER COMMENTS AND/OR OUTFITTER/BOOKING AGENT REBUTTAL
This was my first trip to Africa, and I was not disappointed. I recommend Dries Visser to all bowhunters.

The "citadel" is truly a bow hunter's paradise. It's 10,000 acres with no cross fences and is reserved for bow hunting only. The bush is quite thick.

Dries Visser limits the total number of hunters at any given time to six. This ensures a high level of personal service both in the field and in camp. The whole staff did everything to make my stay comfortable and memorable. The service level could not have possibly been better.

All of the PH's are dedicated, experienced bowhunters. Even the chef is a dedicated bowhunter. It's a great place for bowhunters, whether it's their first trip to Africa or not. All of the other hunters in camp were repeat clients.

In summary, there were plenty of trophy quality animals, and Dries and his staff did everything to make this my hunting trip of a lifetime. They did not fail, and I hope to return.
