Booked Airlines through Gracy Travel, and I would absolutely do it again. Debbie kept us abreast of the SAA strike situation, as well as the nuisances of traveling through South Africa with firearms. You'd be crazy to use anyone else. |

Although the situation in Zimbabwe is "fluid" with reasonable care and good choice of outfitter, the Zimbo hunting experience can be a highlight of your hunting career. I highly recommend the SAVE conservancy, and the Senuko Lodge.

HUNTER COMMENTS AND/OR OUTFITTER/BOOKING AGENT REBUTTAL |

|
I have just returned from a seven-day hunt in Zimbabwe where I was hunting tuskless elephant. The tuskless elephant hunts are being offered as a way to reduce tuskless elephants from the breeding pool. In essence, this hunt is really just a management hunt, but the hunt is exciting.
It appears that there is a fear in the hunting community about going to Zimbabwe for fear of safety due to the land seizures. I want to offer some clarificaiton and hopefully soothe a few fears.
The land seizures have taken place on private farms not on public government land. At this point, there are no plans to seize government land. I feel that it is safe to say that hunting on public lands is not only perfectly safe, but productive.
I drove by many seized farms, and was horrified at what I saw. Squatters now live on once productive farmland where they have neglected the land. Crops are not being planted, substantial numbers of trees have been cut down for firewood, and garbage has been thrown about.
But the real issue about the private farm seizures is the poaching of wildlife. It is clear that the war veterans have completely slaughtered wildlife on seized farms base on my observations as well as that of several PHs with whom I spoke.
While in camp, several PHs said that private land hunting in Zimbabwe is a thing of the past. Based on what I observed this appears to be true. What few farms have not been seized probably will be by years end.
Plenty of PHs in Zimbabwe have excellent hunting concessions on government land where a client would not even see a squatter. Also, the wildlife will be in excellent huntable conditions.
At no given time did I ever fear for my safety while in Zimbabwe. I drove from Harare to the hunting camp, which is right on the Zambezi River. We passed many squatters, who presented no threat at all. In Harare I walked around, and never experienced any hint of hostility.
My advice to anybody reading this report and thinking about hunting in Zimbabwe is do not be scared of media sensationalism. The entire land seizure issue has been blow out of proportion. Just plan to hunt on government land, and use common sense in your actions.
