The only reason I failed to get a Buffalo Bull is after turning down one on day 5, I developed blisters on all toes due to the heat. Absent this development, I am confident we would have scored as there were ample buffalo available.

ADDITIONAL HUNTER COMMENTS AND/OR OUTFITTER/BOOKING AGENT REBUTTAL
Met Myles McCallum on bus ride to SCI Convention in 2007. Visited his booth and was impressed and told myself I was going to hunt with them someday. Subsequent research showed them to be a excellant Safari Company. Booked this hunt at SCI last January and had a wonderful time. Prior hunts have all been great but never walked as much as on this hunt. Had to stalk for long periods of times and distances sometimes with out success. Loved every moment, and Richie and his crew Clever, Sam and Tondi were just outstanding. Also the camp manager Blake who hopes to finish his PH licensing this Fall, was a great help and hunted with us 8 out of 10 days. Like having 2 PH's. Camp food was unbelievable, never expected food this great in a tented camp, Richard the camp cook was just outstanding. Staff were warm and friendly and went out of their way to make this a first class experience

SUMMARY REMARKS
Problems of Hunt:
Highlights of Hunt: This hunt was great. Zimbabwe was very green with lots of jess which made the hunt exciting close hunting. Walking down elephant on 4 to 20 mile walks makes it all worth while when you finally catch up to the game. The country has been run down and they just got off the Zim dollar to the US dollar January 1, 2009. I was very safe in the field. Lots of road inspections to get a little money for meat from traveling vehicles going through small towns.
Equipment Recommendations: Take two pair of good boots.
Would You Recommend This Hunt to a Friend? Yes
Why? One of the best hunts with some of the best elephant and croc/hippo. PHs that made this hunt very exciting and fun.

Problems of Hunt: I cannot think of one aspect of the hunt I would change or one problem we experienced on the hunt with the possible exception of tracking. The tracking was very difficult given lots of unburned dead grass and the shear number of elephants in area. We experienced absoltely no issues with respect to the political situation in Zimbabwe. We never felt uncomfortable or threatened. Everyone was helpful and friendly.
Highlights of Hunt: Taking five elephant in 14 days with six shots with my .500 NE double.
Equipment Recommendations: Good binoculars for spotting and good, broken in boots for tracking.
Would You Recommend This Hunt to a Friend? Yes
Why? Buzz and his team are the best. This is the second year in a row I have hunted with Buzz, that about says it all.

GAME DESCRIPTION
Major Game Animals Taken: Elephant - Availability: Abundant - Trophy Size:
Impala - Availability: Average - Trophy Size: Very skittish.
Game Sought But Not Taken: Bushbuck - Availability: Did not hunt very hard for one.
Bushpig - Availability:
Game Condition Comments: Hunt and [PH] Myles were great. Took tuskless cow on first morning at 12 yards. Impala were plentiful but poaching was evident and they were very wary, we were just looking for camp meat. We saw lots of elephants up close and personal. Being in Zimbabwe was a total nonevent, customs and gun clearance was a piece of cake on both ends of the trip; stayed at Gecko Lodge in Harare overnight on last night and all was wonderful. Issues; SAA said ammo was supposed to be in separate travel bag alone when I got to the airport in Joberg for my 6:30AM flight to Harare, in addition outbound gun clearance folks don't come to work until 6AM--got it done but very stressful as to time frames. In 10 trips to SA on SAA, first I ever heard of this ammo rule, not an issue on trip back to Joberg and US; hopefully just that agents idea. Don could you get clarification on this for all of us? They don't take credit cards anywhere in Zim. Take cash in small bills. Everyone wants green backs, and they don't give change back. I am going back to Zim at the end of June and have absolutely no concerns as to travel safety. Everyone I met was very kind and friendly. Myles and Buzz are great folks and really know their elephants, best hunt of my life; buy their video. It is really worth the time and money.

SUMMARY REMARKS
Problems of Hunt: No problems note, great outfitter and PH. Excellent hunting area with lots of game, got all my primary trophies in first two weeks of three week hunt. Camp well run, excellent food and service. Small well-run operation that really caters to the client. Co-owner and PH Myles McCallum is dedicated as well as entertaining and good company. This was only my second safari, and he taught me a great deal. Great camp staff and terrific hunting staff, especially the trackers. The PH personally oversees the skinning and trophy care which I really appreaciate. Camp and accommodations were comfortable and had a real safari ambiance. Cats in our camp in Makuti, elephant and hippo visited our camp in Chewore North.
Highlights of Hunt: Animals in and around camp every night. Shot charging bull elephant (in addition to my later trophy bull) at my feet in the first hour of day one of my safari. Large male lion walked right by our leopard blind one morning. Hunted wounded Cape buffalo in the tall grass, especially gratifying getting the record book leopard after being unsuccesful with another outfitter a couple of years ago.
Equipment Recommendations: Glad I had my 470 NE to stop the elephant charge. Makuti is rugged with lots of rocks, slippery tall grass and hills. Recommend sturdy hiking boots and Avon Skin So Soft that works well against Tsetse flies.
Would You Recommend This Hunt to a Friend? Yes
Why? This was the hunt of a lifetime. The outfitter and PH are first rate, and I actually got more game than I intended. There wasn't ten minutes that went by without us seeing animals.

ADDITIONAL HUNTER COMMENTS AND/OR OUTFITTER/BOOKING AGENT REBUTTAL
I would highly recommend this outfitter, who has nearly exclusive rights to a great concession for dangerous game: Makuti. PH and company co-owner Myles McCallum leave little to chance and is fastidious about details. He works you hard, but I ended up with a highly successful hunt due largely to his work ethic and perseverence. Despite what you hear about Zimbabwe, I had no trouble at the airport or roadblocks, and we felt safe and undisturbed during our hunt in the Zambezi Valley area. Their hunting regulations are quite reasonable. For example, I was not charged for the bull elephant I had to shoot in self defense on the first day. Both Makuti and Chewore North camps were beautiful and first class all the way, with great service, facilities, and food. Support staff both in our hunting party and at camp were outstanding. Besides being very knowledgable, PH was a terrific companion for three weeks. The hippo hunt and tiger fishing in Chewore North were add-ons to my original plans because we were so successful so quickly in acquiring all my trophies in Makuti. I added a two day visit to Victoria Falls to finish out a great trip. If you are interested in dangerous game, especially the Big Four, this outfitter and this area are worth serious consideration.

SUMMARY REMARKS
Problems of Hunt:
Highlights of Hunt: Chasing the elephant up and down the Escarpment for a week. I had a blast and the PH and I discussed how to raise the bar next time, maybe a backpack style hunt for buffalo in the jesse. We also, to our knowledge, took the first elephant with a 50 Alaskan lever gun and got it on video. I wrote an article on it for African Hunter magazine and it should be in the next issue. Alan is a fantastic and very knowledgeable PH and I highly recommend him. The whole company of CMS has some of the best elephant guides in Zimbabwe. Great guys.
Equipment Recommendations: Makuti is difficult walking as you go up and down the Escarpment. Some have complained about the conditions so be ready with good shoes and if you're overweight then shed some pounds.
Would You Recommend This Hunt to a Friend? Yes
Why? We got in very close on a herd of 21 elephant to shoot the tuskless out of the middle. If you like to get close then consider going with CMS. Buzz, Myles and Alan can get you as close as you want.

Airline Comments: After changing our departure from ATL to IDA with all of the imcumbent headaches, the seating, food, drink and A/V offerings were nicer than previous reports. We flew "cattle class" and that was new for me on this flight but it was not as bad as we were anticipating. Make sure that you get accurate baggage requirements as they seem to change with who you speak to - get a spervisor on the phone...Not quite Business Class on Air France, but definitely improved in many ways.

SUMMARY REMARKS
Problems of Hunt: Minor irritation with customs official at VCA solved with a CD player. Be prepared....
Highlights of Hunt: The entire event was just fantastic. I have never been that tense or excited before in my life! The hunt was just about as perfect as I could have imagined. We both got great buffs and had a fantastic time doing it. This was my second hunt with Alan and he did not fail to deliver in any way. He and his trackers are phenomenal, completely professional and are great to be with. I look forward to returning for more of this kind of excitement with them.
Equipment Recommendations: Comfortable boots for plenty of walking through a beautiful area of Zimbabwe.
Would You Recommend This Hunt to a Friend? Yes
Why? These guys are the best - the PH, the trackers, cooks, camp staff and supporting crew are just top-notch in every way. Totally great experience from beginning to end. I cannot recommend Charlton McCallum Safaris more highly. Feel free to contact me for any questions about this hunt - no, I am not an agent for anyone.

ADDITIONAL HUNTER COMMENTS AND/OR OUTFITTER/BOOKING AGENT REBUTTAL
This was only my third trip to Africa and my second Buffalo hunt. I began hunting Africa in 2004, so much of this is still new to me. I was incredibly fortunate to get Alan Shearing as my PH on my first buffalo hunt in Chizarira. As the first hunt, although quite successful, was an ordeal for me (being out of shape, in the heat, etc.) this hunt was an absolute joy filled with excitement. He and Charlton McCallum Safaris are top flight and deliver a fantastic experience. Even with all of the economic and political turmoil in Zimbabwe, these guys take care of you. You are promptly greeted as you get off the plane and except for a minor "hold-up" in customs, we were in hunting heaven. You are so far removed from the world that the buffalo are all you think about. The people of Zimbabwe are unbelievable - in the face of 1,000 percent inflation, terrible shortages they always smile and make you feel at home. Even our government "guide" was a great guy living in abject poverty (we had to fix his AK as it was falling apart - he wondered why it would not shoot...) People argue that by going to Zimbabwe that you are supporting their government - you are not. You are supporting these people who are surviving and trying to support the wildlife and it's infrastructure. As an impotent US UN representative told me, "No government lasts forever." The people of Zimbabwe need our help.

SUMMARY REMARKS
Problems of Hunt: There were no problems other than the high heat of over 100 F everyday, but I knew that going there. Take a camelback water bag. It is a dry heat and you will dehydrate quickly without a steady water intake.
Highlights of Hunt: Getting a large lioness on the first day of a 10 day hunt. I wounded her at dusk and had to follow up into thick brush at sundown. Very exciting. Taking a tuskless elephant cow with a frontal brain shot at 20 yards. Lots of good fishing on the Zambezi.
Equipment Recommendations: Be in shape and be prepared for the high heat of late season African hunting.

ADDITIONAL HUNTER COMMENTS AND/OR OUTFITTER/BOOKING AGENT REBUTTAL
Having hunted most all game available in North America, I've become focused on the dangerous game species in Africa, namely in Tanzania and Zimbabwe. While Zimbabwe gets a bad rap due to political instability at times, the hunting is excellent and the PH's are very pleasant, experienced and professional. I give the hightest possible recommendation for Buzz Charlton as a PH for elephant (I've used him for anything else, although I know he is qualified). He hunts elephant the traditional way of tracking on foot and getting close. This is the epitome of double rifle hunting and the pursuit of large, unpredictable, dangerous game. Any camp maintained by HHK will be excellent and this Chete camp was no exception. If you are interested in elephant, whether bull or cow, you could not do better than choosing Buzz Charlton and his diversity of hunts available.

Physical Condition: Very good, I'm 40 and trained hard for this hunt. However, Buzz's use of the vehicle to pick you up after a walk/stalk and his knowledge of ele behavior allows most anybody able to walk five miles or so to hunt ele especially on a 14-day hunt. Many of Buzz's clients are in their 50-60's plus.

ADDITIONAL HUNTER COMMENTS AND/OR OUTFITTER/BOOKING AGENT REBUTTAL
Most who hunt tuskless or cow elephant in this area choose to do so later in the season (July-October) when the bush is not as thick and the numerous water holes and rivers have dried up. At this time, the elephant can be found closer to the Zambezi River. Hunting ele during the early season (April-May), especially if the rains are good earlier in the year, is dangerous and difficult, but very rewarding. There are many tuskless ele in the middle Zambezi Valley, and the game department wants them removed from the herds. Not every herd has a tuskless ele, and if they do, one still needs to make sure there are no young, and get into shot position. Hours are spent tracking, and once located, time is spent identifying each ele by their feeding and guttural noises, working through the herd while trying to keep the swirling wind at your back. When spooked, the ele stayed in the thick jess, feeling quite safe in their refuge. Again, later in the year, visibility is better although the hunt is still said to be quite challenging. I used a .416 Rem w/400gr hand-loaded Barnes solids, and plan to use a .458 Lott next time. I found the scope to be a hindrance and removed it (QD mounts), although one should shoot with what they are familiar with, Buzz prefers brain shots for ele, and I'd suggest that one prepares carefully prior to the hunt and arrives knowing their rifle and elephant anatomy well. I found Ron Thomson's book, Mahohboh (available from Safari Press), to be an excellent resource. We hunted the Chewore North concession, and their camp was clean and well kept. Boats were available for evening rides down the Zambezi, and others in camp caught quite a few tiger fish. It was early in the season, so not all the roads were prepared and the cooks were still `warming up", but this was anticipated and wouldn't be an issue during the normal hunting times. Although we did not actively hunt other game, hippo and croc were plentiful. Along the river we saw plains game such as kudu and bushbuck, although this is primarly a big game area. However, being a National Park, we experienced no problems as are reported on the private farms. Most chose to charter to the area, but we drove, as I wanted to see more of Zimbabwe. Situations change, and one should do their homework prior to any hunt by checking with resources such as The Hunting Report, The Zimbabwe Association of Tour and Safari Operators (zatso@mweb.co.zw or 263-4-702402), and Internet forums such at www.accuratereloading.com. Buzz Charlton's passion is hunting elephant, and he knows them well. He is an energetic, ethical and an excellent hunting companion. His team of trackers are tops, and I plan to hunt with them again in April of 2005. Buzz hunts numerous areas besides Chewore including Dande and in Mozambique. In addition to elephant (trophy bull and tuskless), I can recommend Buzz for all dangerous game, including buffalo, leopard and lion.
