On the fifth day of the hunt my wife developed kidney stones. The outfitter immediately got us to the nearest hospital. He took control of the situation and made sure the hospital gave my wife the best care possible. Because of his genuine concern this medical condition did little to interrupt our hunt. We were back at the ranch that same evening and I was able to continue my hunt the following day.

Gonzalo and his staff provided everything you could possibly want on a trip, the hunting can be custom designed to your ability and desires, from hiking great distances to sitting on stands. You do not have to be in great shape to hunt there, but as always it does help. |

Argentina is a beautiful country and I would plan on taking some extra days and tour the country. We took a side trip to Iguazu Falls which was well worth it. We also spent a few days in Buenos Aires. This is a perfect rip for families, the hunting is very good and shouldn't be difficult for anyone's ability level. Five Star.

Everything was perfect on this hunt. My wife and I had a great time, she had taken about 5 books to read while I hunted and she only read half a book as she decided to go hunting with me every day. She has better appreciation of the way hunts are done and how we respect the animals we kill. The lodging is outstanding too and the service is excellent. The quality of the animals is incredible. My red stag had 14 points and it was free range. There were thousands of animals everywhere. It was amazing to see them during the "brama" and fighting in the valley. One of the best hunts I have been on.

This was my wife's and my first time to visit South America. It was fantastic! (I have hunted extensively in Africa, North America and Europe). My wife accompanied me as an observer and she loved it. The hunting on horseback was a treat for this ole Montana raised boy. The saddles are a bit different from our western saddle, but maybe we can learn something there. They were very comfortable. The horses were outstanding and a pleasure to ride. They were well trained, and handled the saddle scabbard without fuss. We saw a lot of beautiful country on horseback that we wouldnt have seen from a vehicle and certainly wouldnt have been able to cover as much ground if on foot. |

Recommendations: |
I used a Blaser R93 Rifle with .416 Rem Mag and .300 Win Mag barrels. I took 20 rounds for each loaded with Barnes X bullets. Ranges where trophies taken was from 50-300 meters. Optics: Leupold scopes for both rifle barrels. My binos are Zeiss 10x40s. Rangefinder was a Leupold. I also used an adjustable shooting stick. |

Gonzolo Llambi guided me personally. He spoke fluent English which made is very easy to communicate. (As I only know a few Spanish words) He was an excellent guide and knew his game animals and their habits very well. He was very careful to keep the pace at my level of physical capability (I'm in my late 60's). I liked the fact that he used a range finder while we were stalking so it made it much easier to judge where to aim on longer shots. He has a very outgoing and pleasant manner. It was a real pleasure to hunt with him. My wife and I felt like we went there as strangers and left as friends.Gonzolo Llambi is the outfitter. I can only praise him and the excellent service he and his organization provided. It is important to note that both he and his two professional hunters that I met speak very good English. The logistical support from pick up at the airport to hotel on first night of arrival and transport back to hotel on day before departure and return to the airport the next evening was expertly organized and executed. His drivers/staff were very pleasant and efficient. The staff at Estancia Acelain were very pleasant, helpful and efficient. The cleanliness and order were commendable. The daily laundry was normally back on the same day, very well done. This is probably the best camp I have lived in during my many years of hunting. Airport pick-up and return was $830. His recommendations on what to do in Buenos Aries and sightseeing were very helpful. His help and guidance prior to the hunt made it very easy to get my Rifles and ammunition imported/exported into/out-of Argentina with a minimum of delay.

HUNTER COMMENTS AND/OR OUTFITTER/BOOKING AGENT REBUTTAL |
 |
|
This was an archery hunt with the primary target being red stag and secondary animals being fallow and axis deer.
I attended the SCI convention in January with the goal of booking a red stag hunt. While at the convention I met with numerous outfitters from New Zealand and Argentina as well as Neil Summers of Bowhunting Safari Consultants. Even though NZ clearly has bigger red stag, it was more important to me to hunt free-range than to kill a monster stag. After much analysis I conclude my chances of taking a representative to good free-range red stag were better in Argentina than in NZ. Therefore, I decided to take Neil Summers recommendation and booked with Cerro Indio Safaris of Argentina. Although the area I hunted was fenced it was not high-fences and the animals I hunted were born on the ground I hunted and if pressured could easily escape. I was not disappointed in my decision.
While there are several different areas available to hunt, the area I hunted consisted of approximately 10,000 acres with terrain varying between open plain to hills with an elevation gain of 600 to 700 feet (best guess).
This is a spot or hear and stalk hunt and the time was perfect for the peak of the roar. We literally would not go more than one minute without hearing a stag roar. We averaged seven stalks per day and on the third day after 15 unsuccessful stalks I made a perfect heart/lung shot on a 6X6 stag from 53 yards. I was also successful in taking a fallow deer at 40 yards and an axis deer at 20 yards. It is a challenge to get within bow range of the stags and a bow hunter should be prepared to take shots between 40 and 50 yards. Fortunately, my guide, Juan, was experienced at stalking with a bowhunter and we had lots of opportunities at all of the animals on my list. Other animals available but not taken by choice include capybara, water buffalo, blackbuck and feral boar.
In general the conditions require the hunter to be in moderate to good condition. Walking is not difficult but it is hilly. If you are bow hunting you will do a lot of walking and belly-crawling. Good knee pads and leather gloves are required, baseball batter gloves work well. The good news is after a long morning of walking and stalking you retreat to a small cabin on the property for a hot meal prepared by the gaucho and a short siesta. Then it is back to the hills for the afternoon hunt.
To say the accommodations are excellent would be an understatement. I stayed in a beautiful 80 year old villa located about 20 minutes from our hunting property that included four star dining with great Argentine wines, daily laundry service and maid service.
I have been on numerous hunts both within the US and abroad. Some were great and some less than great. So I am confident in saying if you are looking for a free-range archery hunt for red stag and fallow deer I am confident you will not be disappointed in selecting Cerro Indio Safaris.
I would also like to include a brief comment on my experience with Neil Summers of Bowhunting Safari Consultants. This hunt was the first time I used this booking agent and I was very satisfied with every aspect of his involvement. As the name implies Neil only books bow hunts and he understands the special requirements for a successful bow hunt. He was thorough with every aspect of his involvement and I have since booked another hunt for Alaska moose through him.
If you are reading this report and are considering booking a hunt with Cerro Indo please call or email me and I would be happy to answer your questions and give additional details from my hunt.

Condition Comments: |
Hard to find during new moon, and when its neither too hot or too cold. Brockets are delicate and move only during comfortable temperatures. I shot two fine bucks but not until the sixth day. Walking and stalking about 35 miles total in mud, marsh, thorny forest and wet esteros. Fabulous bird watching. Good peccary and capybara. |

SUMMARY
REMARKS |
 |
| Problems
of Hunt: |
Tough, demanding conditions, hot, cold, muddy, wet, full moon. |
| Highlights
of Hunt: |
Two excellent, well above average males, that were earned from a great deal of walking (35 miles) through tough terrain. Vast numbers of birds - especially raptors and waders. |
| Equipment
Recommendations: |
High rubber boots, snake-proof gaitors, Duranon/per-methrine-soaked clothing and 100 percent DEET for hoardes of mosquitoes. |
| Would You
Recommend This Hunt to a Friend? |
Yes |
| Why? |
I'm not interested in fenced/canned hunts. Brocket deer, if you hunt them on foot, are a tough challenge and very rewarding and memorable. I would love to shoot all the legal, free-range Native deer of the world, not farm-raised exotics. Outfitter Gonzalo Lambi is a great, ethical man. |

Condition Comments: |
I was able to take everything on my wish list. I was pleased with the over-all size and quality of all species. To my knowledge, none were measured for score as that wasn't a priority for me. Trophy quality is good based on my personal experience and of others I know who have hunted with Cerro Indio. Game appears well managed. |

This is as good a hunting experience I've had. The hunting was excellent in terms of quantity, quality, and variety of game, but even more, the quality of the operation was as good as it gets. You'll never find more comfortable accommodations and the food is very good and very plentiful. The service is exemplary by Gonzalo, his family, his entire staff including P.H. Eber Berrade, and the gauchos. Horses are utilized in the hunting by those who are comfortable with them. The horses are very good and add more options to the hunt. The hunting area is wonderful. Estancia Acelain is approximately 25,000 acres consisting of undulating grasslands, immense fields, old growth forests with huge eucalyptus, pine, oak, and cypress trees, and watercourses. The historical ranch is wonderfully manicured and landscaped and the "castle" is worth the trip itself. Matter of fact, many people from around the world travel here just to see and experience some of the history and culture of old aristocratic Argentina. There are other hunting areas nearby that provide trophy quality blackbuck, red stag, fallow deer, boar, and even Pere David deer. There are other species available, as well, giving you a variety of unique opportunities, not unlike some areas of Africa. These other locations offer entirely different hunting environments. Some are more mountainous in nature with rock ledges and deep canyons, while other are savanna-like. The most important aspect of the over-all experience has to do with the people of Cerro Indio. They are extremely professional and efficient, but evenmore, its the feeling you have when being around them. The client relationship quickly changes to one of friendship and commaraderie. This is a perfect place to take your family. If you are looking for excellent hunting, comfort, service, enjoyment, and an over-all sense of satisfaction and well-being, Cerro Indio is the place.
