ADDITIONAL HUNTER COMMENTS AND/OR OUTFITTER/BOOKING AGENT REBUTTAL
Erik Mararv owner of the company CAWA has opened a in recent years what he calls ¨the last frontier and beyond¨, he holds one of the most remote hunting concessions in all Africa, its 2 million hectares are 130 miles away from the nearest village so expect to hunt one of the most wild & remote places on earth. I booked this hunt to look for 4 of the 5 precious game found in CAR, I got 2 of them and considered a very successful hunt. this is an area where you can hunt for forest & Savannah species in one trip and in the same area! I shot my Giant Eland the first day of the hunt so after a few days I wanted to look for another one we, tracked and saw numerous herds the next 10 days but could never connect with another one, this hunt could be very physically tough, you do not see much game, some days almost none at all as it is very scattered, there is a lot of water everywhere so game is not concentrated at all. My guide was Christophe Morio a though Frenchman and one of the most experienced and reputable guides in C.A.R. he knows about all game specially Bongo.

SUMMARY REMARKS
Problems of Hunt:
Highlights of Hunt: A good friend Mr. David Scott accompanied me and we hunted one on one. A tough but great hunt. My PH Francois Guillet is truly a professional - professional hunter and is very focused on client satisfaction. He works well with the trackers and all the staff. There seemed to be mutual respect with everyone. Francois loves to hunt, and shares his knowledge with you. One of the best PHs I have hunted with. He is concerned with the quality of trophy you are getting a chance at and once harvested, he was down to the skinning shed numerous times during my Safari to be certain the trophies were taken care of properly. I took a very large Lord Derby Eland 54 inches plus, a good Western Roan that should make book. I was very happy with the quality of all my animals. I come up short when trying to compliment Eric and Charlotte Mararv. They run an outstanding operation under very trying conditions. Charlotte takes care of the logistics in Banqui and believe me that is not an easy task as infra-structure does not exist in C.A.R. Charlotte's guest house is clean and the food very good. She is efficient at getting people off of the Air France flight and on the charter the next morning. Thank you Charlotte. Eric runs the camps and the day to day operations in the field. Again very well done and genuine concern that your safari is going well. The camp was very clean and the food above average. They even have a garden so fresh vegetables were very welcome. Thank you Eric and staff for a great experience. The other PHs we met in camp were very professional and knowledgeable. David hunted with Peter Woods a Zimbabwian who also very keen and well respected by all the staff and hunters alike. David took great trophies as well including a Lewell's Hartebeast, Lord Derby Eland, a monster Western Roan, Savanna Buffalo and Yellow Backed Duiker. I think David would echo my comments as to the quality of the Safari. A word here about our booking agent. I have always tried to book directly with the Safari company but this hunt we booked through Fred and Elise Duckworth. Fred and Elise were a great help in sorting out all the details and answering a multitude of never ending questions. His knowledge of C.A.R. and the type of hunting we would be doing is second to none. Again a big thank you to Fred and Elise Duckworth. We had no problems with firearms in Paris as we overnighted on the way in and out. It was not an issue.
Equipment Recommendations: BOOTS Fred stressed boots over on over. Taking two pair would not be out the question. Your feet take a severe beating. Under extreme heat and the walking can be tough as you are constantly tracking in stealth mode so silence is critical so you are picking every step to avoid the corn flake crunch of stepping on leaves to dodging termite mounds. Blisters will happen so be prepared. Taking electrolytes such as powdered Gator-Aid would be a huge benefit- we forgot that one. You will put a lot of kilometers on every day so be fit. We both used 375 H&H Magnums a great choice for this type of hunting. Be sure to take 10-15 solids for the smaller Duikers etc. I also changed out my Leopold 1.5-5 that I had used on three safaris for a Nightforce 2.5-10 x 32mm A good decision, as the distance ranged from 50 yards for one of the Duikers to 260 yards for the Roan. Practice at more than a hundred yards off of shooting sticks as the chances are quick and varied. Dark colored clothing is the best, and light. We both found the heat to be a problem.
Would You Recommend This Hunt to a Friend? yes
Why? It is a great experience, this is raw Africa. Great Safari company and good people.

ADDITIONAL HUNTER COMMENTS AND/OR OUTFITTER/BOOKING AGENT REBUTTAL
Erik and Emilie are the best hosts one could ask for. From being greeted in Bangui by Charlotte to all of the Phs and staff, they are first class. The camps are exceptional and well maintained. We even had home made Ice Cream for dessert one night. The food was exceptional. There are no added costs. Your hunt includes the air charter to camp, over night stay both coming and going in Bangui, dinner and meals in Bangui. Erik and Emilie and Charlotte have put together a wonderful Safari. This hunt is not easy by any means but if you work hard you will get your trophies. I planned to return in 2012 for Bongo and some of the forest Duikers. I highly recommend this hunt. I understand that the concessions in the North were closed down while we were in camp due to Sudanese rebels. We had no problems and I felt totally safe where we were hunting in the Southeast part of the Country.
