In reading Lance Stapleton's article in the January 2008 Hunting Report, I am attaching this to my Hunting Report to say that I could not agree with him more. The Peace Region in British Columbia has proven for me, to be an excellent place to hunt for the past three years.
In 2005, I killed a non-typical 184 7/8 gross B&C whitetail buck. In 2006, I did not kill a buck because I was looking for a deer larger than the one I had killed previously. In 2007, I killed a multi-tined whitetail buck grossing 180 2/8 with an 8 inch drop-tine. Since the bucks were non-typical, none of them will book, but for free-range deer, they are huge. These particular hunts are excellent hunts in that you can hunt fields, spot and stalk or hunt over a bait. Since British Columbia has extended the season to November 30th (hopefully permanently), you are able to hunt all through the normal British Columbia rut. From a game standpoint, this area is absolutely fabulous. One morning this past year, over an approximately 100-acre field, we saw 30 elk, 13 moose and several groups of whitetail and mule deer. I personally have not seen a mule deer I wanted to take, simply because I am looking for a 190 plus.
In summary, the Peach Region of British Columbia, as Lance Stapleton said, is a real sleeper and needs to be given consideration for hunting. Personally, Sean Lingl's Canadian Guide Outfitters, is one of the best outfitters I have ever hunted with, if not the best.
