Western Arctic caribou herd is 500,000 but very few came off the Arctic Coast - everyone in NW Alask were surprised to see so few caribou.

Problems of Hunt: Just a bad year for caribou. Jake and Ron did everything humanly possible to remedy the situation, but if the caribou aren't there, they aren't there. Highlights of Hunt: Shooting napping grizzly at 170 yards. Watching two bull moose square off from 100 yards. Great times in the lodge in the evening with really good guys. Equipment Recommendations: Hip boots and waterproof knee high boots. Good hiking boots if you're doing a sheep hunt. Stout compact pack frame for packing meat and trophy. Would You Recommend This Hunt to a Friend? yes Why? Considering that it is 200 miles north of the arctic circle and accessibility only by bush plane. Jake has built a phenominal lodge. I am convinced that this year was an abetation. Game is usually abundant. Lots of return hunters.
