I can't say enough about Alpine Hunting. All the guides and staff were first class, we were treated like kings. The food was excellent. I gained five pounds in four days even after hunting. Would have liked to do the tar hunt, but did not have enough time, will definitely be going back some day.

This is a great hunt for anyone young or old and in any type of condition, the staff at Alpine Adventures all went above and beyond what anybody would expect, when we had to leave it felt like we were leaving friends that we had known all our lives. They have a full time chef that would give Emeril a run for his money. In conclusion if anyone would like a fun, relaxing hunt I would highly recommend Alpine Hunting.

The reason for this letter is that the form is not adequate to describe this fantastic hunt. This was a group endeavor, which made it even more fun. It was the idea of Shane Quinn and Tom Julian, the owner of Julian & Sons, who is the wood maker whose trophy rooms are well known throughout the hunting world and especially at the Safari Club. The third hunter in our group was Dr. Larry Barr from Louisiana who is a well-known hunter himself and holds a number of records. Each of us took our wives on the trip so there were six of us, which would normally create some logistic problems, however, it was so well planned that everything worked perfectly. Upon arriving in New Zealand we were taken to Shane's home and lodge on the north island where we hunted on his ranch for several days. The facilities were fantastic. While the men were hunting the women enjoyed relaxing or taking a helicopter ride to go fly fishing or simply shopping. Tom Julian was the first to have success. He shot a free-ranging sitka deer on public land that may rank in the top three. All of us ended up with a sitka with my wife shooting mine. Each of us also took a red stag, each being over 340 with heavy antlers. After several days the men boarded a six-seater Cessna and headed to the south island. Because the west coast was rained in we hunted first on the east coast on public land, seeing numerous chamois. As we hunted, the plane returned to the north island and picked up our wives returning them to the south island so that when we were finished hunting out wives met us for drinks and dinner along the beautiful seacoast. The weather turned bad on the east coast so we then took the plane and headed over to Fox Glacier on the west coast where we found beautiful weather and began hunting tahr and chamois once again. As we were hunting, the plane returned to the east coast and picked up the ladies and brought them into Fox where they enjoyed helicopter rides to the glacier and then later took a plane to Queenstown for a shopping spree. I became the lucky one by shooting the first tahr I had ever seen. It turned out to be a granddaddy over 11 years old with horns over 13 1/2 inches and may be the largest that Shane has ever taken and one of the largest taken in the last 5 to 10 years in New Zealand. It is being mounted and will be in Shane Quinn's booth at the Safari Club along with Tom Julian's sitka deer. The hunt took place in as rugged territory as you could imagine. Fortunately, I had a clear 300-yard shot, however, the tahr immediately went into the bushes thicker than what you would find in Vietnam and became almost impossible to locate. We could not visually see him, even at 5 feet but his odor gave away where he had fallen. Fortunately, we had a helicopter to assist us in retrieving him since hunting in that area would be impossible without a helicopter. I might mention that all three of us were foot hunting after being let off by the helicopter so there was severe climbing and negotiations on the mountaintops. Each of us was fortunate to take a tahr and chamois and all are respectable with each tahr being in excess of 10 inches and the chamois being 9 inches or better. I cannot say too much about Shane Quinn and his crew. The accommodations were fantastic at all places. We stayed at a bed and breakfast on the south island with beautiful views and when we got ready to go hunting we would simply have to take a helicopter and head to the top of the mountain. The girls would then take a helicopter and sightsee or take a plane and go to one of the cities. With the transportation Shane makes sure everything is convenient. Everyone had a fantastic time. The price for each couple was between $13,000.00 and $14,000.00, including the helicopter and personal planes. It would be a great trip for any of your readers.
