ADDITIONAL HUNTER COMMENTS AND/OR OUTFITTER/BOOKING AGENT REBUTTAL
My hunt was the last of the season. The stags had moved down from the mountains for the winter, so plenty in the area. Also the same for wild boar. The next time I go I'll probably try hunting in late February - March while the "roar" is on. Mariano Fernandez is a class act and runs a class operation. All the staff was great, very engaging and thoroughly enjoyable people. Atcheson's have been pushing this hunt for 20 years. I can see why now. I'll go back again in the next few years. The next time I'll take my daughter. She would have loved it. The food is excellent, the desserts especially. They are on par with what you can expect in a 5 star restaurant. I appreciate Keith Atcheson's honesty in representing what this experience would be like. If anything, he understated it. Also, Doug at Gracy Travel understands that you need 3-4 hours between airports in Buenos Aires. You need this time to transfer airports and check-in your rifle. Leticia will do it all for ~$130. She was great, very efficient! Algar sets this up.

Algar Safaris has a good reputation and has been well advertised in the media. They are a significant contributor to SCI and this was a Chapter donation hunt. In my experience, they lived up to their reputation of being a very high quality outfit with wonderful accommodations and service in ever respect -- from the initial greeting at the airport to the final drop-off. Thank you Mariano Fernandez and the whole Algar team!

My guide spoke no English and I speak no Argentine Spanish but we had Zero problems, got my game and had a great time. I think he could understand some English but was probably as shy about speaking it as I would be about Spanish. There are some things hunters just know a guide is telling them and guides know a hunter is asking them. I'd hunt with Tito any time he worked hard for me. The others in "camp" were all Americans and many in the lodge staff spoke English or understood and satisfied any desire. Great place.

SUMMARY REMARKS
Problems of Hunt: While a great experience, hunting on horseback limits the amount of ground covered. I would trade the quantity of animals for the quality of the hunt. The guide spoke virtually no English.
Highlights of Hunt: The country is magnificent. The lodge, dining and service is first class. The quality of game is excellent. Bagging an old Patagonian puma and a giant old stag.
Equipment Recommendations: We were travelling to several countries so bringing a rifle was not possible. Algar provided a Ruger M77 with a Swarovski scope.

Why? This is a luxurious hunting lodge with great hunting for many species. Dr. Tommy Dobie manages a first rate hunting outfit. Hunters and non hunters alike will enjoy Algar.

ADDITIONAL HUNTER COMMENTS AND/OR OUTFITTER/BOOKING AGENT REBUTTAL
This is a great vacation as well as hunt. The only problem is that my wife and infant son could not come along. I went on this hunt the first week of March in 2007. The roar was just beginning but there were still plenty of stag on the ranch. I understand from both the Ranch and references that as winter approaches and the roar progresses that more stag continue to show up. You have the opportunity to hunt free range stag here but they also have 2 very large enclosures for estate hunting if you would rather. The lodge, food, and the personnel are outstanding. This is a great hunt to take family members on. Be sure to spend at least one day in Bariloche and at least one day in Buenos Aires. This is a very fun hunt to go on but it is not simple or easy. Although you should see stag to hunt each day, taking one is quite a bit more challenging than it first appears. I highly recommend this hunt. The owners were there at the ranch the entire time of my stay and they could not have been more hospitable. Dr. Tomas Dobie is the veterinarian on the ranch and is a very interesting person to visit with as well as just a good person to be around. Algar will have someone to meet you at each airport in Argentina and they help you through customs. Traveling to and through Argentina was as easy as it could be.
