Problems of Hunt: Highlights of Hunt: Seeing multiple bears every day. Having a killer whale swim under our skiff, that spooked me but was an incredible experience. Shrimping, crabbing, fishing. Walking up streams and rivers filled with spawning salmon. The last night of the hunt we were glassing the shore from the skiff and were hearing in the distance what sounded like explosions. Far in the distance we glassed whales breaching and then seconds later you could hear them hit the water. It went on for some time, I'll never forget that. Too many other highlights to list them all. Equipment Recommendations: The best quality breathable chest waders you can get. Quality rain gear like Sitka. Stainless rifle. Would You Recommend This Hunt to a Friend? yes Why? If I could only do one more hunt in my life it would be brown bear hunt with Brad and Minnie Dennison. It is an incredible hunt in an incredible area. Brad is a wealth of knowledge and one of the best guides I have ever hunted with. Minnie makes you feel like family and is an incredible cook, I looked forward to every meal. Salt of the earth people. Their boat, "BEAR", is a great base camp with all the comforts of home. There are many aspects of the trip that make it much more than just a brown bear hunt.

I have been on two fall brown bear hunts with Brad and Minnie. My first hunt I took a brown bear on the last day of the hunt with my recurve. My second trip in 2008 we saw over 100 bears in 10 days. Some were the same bears on different days but it shows the high density of bear in their area. I did not take a bear on the second trip, but not for lack of bears, we just never managed to get under the 20 yards needed for a shot with a recurve. Around the 7th day of the 2008 trip my shoulder gave up on me and I was having a real hard time drawing my bow, I thought my hunt was done. Without saying anything Brad had his daughter and her boyfriend come all the way out in their boat to where we were hunting and bring out his spare .375 H&H for me to hunt with. That was going above and beyond and proof of what kind of people they are. We passed a number of good bears the last couple nights but didn't close on a big one.

Game Sought But Not Taken: Game Condition Comments: Bears appear to be plentiful and would probably have seen more if it had been cooler as bears are coming out of hibernation and heavy coats keep them back in timber until late in the day.

Problems of Hunt: Unusually warm weather kept bears from "open" areas where they normally would be seen in greater numbers for longer periods. Highlights of Hunt: Numerous stalks on bears including a final successful one. Catching shrimp, dungeness crabs and fishing. The wildlife seen included whales, deer, dolphin, otters, seals, eagles, etc. Fabulous scenery. Equipment Recommendations: Cabela's Bob Busted hip boots and Helly Hanson raingear. Would You Recommend This Hunt to a Friend? Yes Why? Dedicated husband/wife outfitting team. Minnie Dennison went above and beyond to ensure your comfort. Hunger and many other needs were met. Brad dennison is a highly professional and knowledgeable outfitter and guide who puts forth every effort for the hunter's success. Assistant guide is also very qualified and a fun person to be around. A much better than expected hunt. I think area probably has a higher number of bears than were been seen.

Major Game Animals Taken: Bear, Brown - Availability: - Trophy Size: Nine feet and three inches, 26 inches skull (Green). Game Sought But Not Taken: Bear, Black - Availability: Short time hunted (two days) and heavy rain. I passed two bears, six and six and a half feet. I was unable to get into a shooting situation on larger third bear. Game Condition Comments: I felt that I saw an above average number of both bears for the weather conditions. I saw 16 brown bears (two shooters) in six hunting days, four black bears (one shooter) in two days.

There were extra baggage charges by Alaska but not American. There were booking problems with itinerary changes. I had a first class ticket but flew coach due to agent error.

Game Condition Comments: The bears were in great shape. Of the 20-25 bears I spotted, only two had rubbed hides . This was an early season hunt. Three of the four hunters took bears!
