This is an exceptional hunt to take a spouse on. You stay on an Estate that has been continuously in the same family for over 800 years. You hunt for the game species on land this family has hunted on for generations. You are guided by two guides, one of which is a family member, either Didier or Guillaume Roques-Rogery. The trophy care after the hunt is excellent. The other professional guide, Jean Cazenove, knows the game well and is as good with the hides as any professional taxidermist. There is a walk-in cooler at the Chateau to complete the storage aspect of the trophy care.
The food is excellent and typical southern France cuisine. For me, this was one of the highlights of the trip. Wine is part of the cuisine, much of which is grown and bottled by relatives a few miles away. I did not gain much weight on the trip, but don't expect to lose any, either. The cook and man-who-helps with everything, Ben, kept us full and entertained. All meals were served family style and provided some of the best fellowship of the trip.
While I hunted my wife was taken sight-seeing in a nearby village and on another day, had private cooking lessons at a nearby Michelin recognized restaurant. After a few days of hunting, we toured various cities and towns. The variation of mountains and valleys displayed the extreme contrast of southern France as well as the history from Roman times to the present.
Throughout the trip, we were provided a completely relaxing and enjoyable adventure. After hunting throughout North and South America, Africa and various parts of Europe, my wife and I felt this was one of our best trips ever. We were welcomed to his home (Chateau) by Guillaume, his wife Lisa, their daughter Fabiola and Guillaume's father, Didier Roques-Rogery. I wrote in their guest book (which had entries dating back to 1835) that we came to Laplanque as strangers and left in the warmth of friendship.
Both Guillaume and Didier are trained wildlife specialists and professional hunters. They have spent years developing some of the best genetics and trophy quality in Europe for red stag, mouflon, fallow and sika deer. There is never more than one group on the property at a time, guaranteeing you everyone's undivided attention. This is a first-class, well-run destination.
