For several years I researched where to go for a fair chase free ranging Mouflon hunt that I could afford. After contacting the Croatian Hunting Federation I booked with ALECTORIS HUNTING based out of Zagreb. The owner is Viseslav Udiljak and he arranges hunts all over Croatia for Mouflon, Chamois, Bear, Red Stag, and Dalmatian Wild Goat.
Much like the elk hunt I reported on a few years ago in Wyoming I have found an operator who is honest, customer service oriented, pays close attention to detail, and is much lower in price than all the big name operators such as J & P Agent (Josip Tomljanoic), Hunt In Europe (Srdja Dimetrevic), The Hunting Consortium (Bob Kern), and others. All Hunting Report subscribers wishing to hunt wild free ranging Mouflon at an affordable price should give serious consideration to ALECTORIS.
My wife and I flew into Zagreb and rented a car and drove south to the Dalmation coast near the town of Ploce. The area we hunted had numerous Moulfon in the mountains all in good condition due to a fire in the area about four years ago resulting in high quality forage. I had two guides in addition to Viseslav Udiljak. I took a very respectable 74 cm Mouflon on day one at 450 yards. The area is known for having numerous Mouflon of 70 - 90 cm horn length. Trophy care was excellent. We stayed in a nice hotel about 15 minutes from the hunt area. Food was exceptional.
After our hunt my wife and I spent three days sightseeing in the area as within 100 miles there are four UNESCO World Heritage sites dating to the Roman Empire.
The most striking thing about hunting in Croatia is the people we encountered. All had excellent customer service skills, were friendly to Americans, and willing to please. Litter is nonexistent and children walk at night and go to school without fear of abduction. Food was great and affordable everywhere we stayed and went.
Based on my experience if one is patient they should have no problem in taking a Mouflon from 75 - 85 cm horn length. ALECTORIS also arranges hunts for Chamois nearby in the world famous Biokovo mountain range.
