Problems of Hunt: None. The hunt was excellent from all aspects. Communication can be challenging as the trackers don't speak English but I managed to speak German with them (when going off with only them on a stalk) so it was all OK. Josip speaks excellent English so when you are with him comm is not an issue.
Highlights of Hunt: Seeing very abundant numbers of wild, free range mouflon and hunting them in the rugged coastal mountains of Croatia. Shooting a nice, mature ram with the backdrop of the Adriatic Sea and actually "packing" him out on a boat! This outfitter's herd of mouflon is healthy and this is a challenging hunt. Also, eating fresh seafood every night after the can you beat that! Also a great hunt because you can hunt these animals year round. Spring, Summer (but hot), Fall, or Winter (sometimes cold but never horrible).
Equipment Recommendations: Excellent hiking boots with rubber rand as the terrain is nothing but jagged razor sharp rocks/shards. Excellent long range rifle. These sheep are difficult to get close to and the mountains/canyons/terrain does not really lend itself to easy, close shots. Also, the sheep are really tough so anything but a textbook heart/lung shot results in an extended tracking job.
Would You Recommend This Hunt to a Friend? yes

I really wanted to hunt mouflon in Europe but was unwilling to sit in a blind and wait for a "pen raised" sheep to wander by a water hole to do so. I lived in Europe so no plane travel was needed but it did not sound difficult with Air Croatia. I found this outfitter after researching free range mouflon hunting. Josip and his trackers/guides were excellent and knew their area like the backs of their hands...they have been hunting this concession for years. The actual concession is about 100,000 acres in size (split into 3 different areas) and is plenty big to feel like you are hunting in the wild (which you are). There are NO fences and the mouflon can roam anywhere they want but there are some natural boundaries that keep them more or less in predictable areas (Adriatic Sea being one of them). I stayed in a small town about 30 miles from the hunting area and the accommodations were simple but comfortable and more than suitable for a spouse or other non-hunting guests. The accommodations are right on the Sea and we ate fresh seafood and saw the water from my balcony for the entire stay. Awesome! Croatia is relatively undeveloped by European standards but this is changing now that the war is long over and people are discovering its amazing people, beauty, and now hunting opportunities. I actually half-heartedly hunted brown bear too but didn't sit over bait or would have more or less been a trophy of opportunity. In any case, this is a great area for Balkan chamois, bear, mouflon, roe deer, and above average for monster wild boar....among many other less-known but equally interesting species. He also has a 2500 acre island to hunt free range fallow deer if that is your thing (bowhunting allowed). I was able to take my mouflon on the evening of the 1st day after a stalk on a monster mouflon was unsuccessful in the morning. Like most European hunting, you pay for the size of your trophy and as the size goes up, your trophy fee goes up exponentially. I had an "all-inclusive" package that allowed for a mouflon up to 70cm but chose to shoot a bigger ram. The biggest challenge is finding a ram that fits your specs/price range as there are lots of rams to pick from...with the proper time, persistence, and patience of course. I found my ram bedded in a canyon with several smaller rams and ewes in early afternoon but the angle of the shot and distance were extreme (45 deg angle at 350 meters). I was not comfortable with this shot and I mentioned that part of the fun of the hunt was stalking so we stalked around the rim of the canyon and over/down/across some loose and sharp rocks for about an hour to get closer. Luckily, these ultra alert animals did not hear us (the loose rocks make incredible noise) and we did manage to stay out of sight for most of the stalk. I managed to get within about 200 meters with a less steep shot attempt (prob around 35 deg or so). We waited for what seemed like an eternity for them to get up to feed and they finally did but my ram stayed out of sight until we finally caught a glimpse of him standing and browsing on a tree. I took my time and steadied on a rock with my daypack underneath for padding. After the crack of my 7x65r singleshot rifle, I briefly lost sight of the ram and the herd took off like they were on fire. Then, my tracker saw him staggering at the bottom of the canyon and fall...awesome! He traveled less than 50 meters...It turned out to be a great shot through the heart (luckily) and no tracking was needed. The trackers and I took at least 30 min to get to the bottom of the canyon and I was just in awe of the ram and the whole experience. After pictures, we drug him out of the mouth of the canyon for about 500 meters to the sea where a boat picked us up and we took him around a peninsula to a road where we could pick him up. Where else can you do this! ha! As the smell of sea air filled my nose I was holding onto my ram on the boat ride back and admiring his color and regality. What a great experience. I'd love to go back for Chamois, bear, or boar sometime. Highly recommended. Plus, all non-hunters have a plethora of things to see/do in and within 3 hours of the hunting area.
