I arrived to Chad on February 2, 2016 I had been looking for a Western Kudu hunt for a very long time, as it was the last of the Spiral Horns left on my quest to hunt all of them. Jean Pierre and Club Faune finally got it for me and that is how this trip came to be.
February 3 was spent traveling by car to the hunt area, Christian, one of the owners of the concession drove me, he is an excellent person, with a lot of experience in Chad, it was very interesting to get to know part of Chad on this drive. We arrived in the afternoon, went to check the rifle which was perfect and then came back to camp to relax. Camp is a very comfortable compound that is right next to a village, it even has Wifi to keep connected to the world if you want to. The cabins have all the comforts and even AC if needed.
Hunting here is done by driving around and it takes a lot of driving to find game, there are nomadic herdsman with big herds of cows and they are trying to be controlled so they only remain in certain areas to give game a chance to flourish.
My PH on this hunt was Jean Berguerie, he has been hunting here for a couple of years and knows the area well.
On February 5 we put a stalk and got a very nice Western Roan and a huge Red Fronted Gazelle, both were excellent trophies. We saw Western Kudu everyday, but we were looking for mature bulls. There are a lot of Warthog, some Western Bush Duiker, Western Kudu, Western Roan, Western Hartebeest, Bohor Reedbok, Oribi, Jackal and Baboons.
As usual the closer you get to the villages in the area the less game you see, and the closer you are to water the more game you see. This is a very specialized safari for collectors, but there is enough game to get good trophies of the species mentioned above.
On February 7 I got a Warthog and finally my Kudu, he was walking behind a broken horn mature Kudu also, they were coming from the water, walking in the open so the shot was a very easy 70 yard shot at a walking Kudu.
The next day i returned to Ndjamena an returned to Mexico, I had work problems that needed my attention and had to cut my hunt short, if not I am sure I would have gotten several other trophies, my brother went a week after I returned, he stayed the whole 10 days and got all of them, but that is his story to tell.
