With 15 preference points in Arizona, I finally drew my mule deer tag in 12B, the Kaibab. Marvin James has been assisting me for many years with hunting choices. Well, it finally paid off in a big way.
We left camp, my guide Stan Gaines and I, at O' Dark-thirty. As the sun slowly lit the desert sky, Stan and I were seeing deer. It wasn't until late afternoon when Stan spotted this buck. We lost sight of him as night overtook us. Of course we were back there in the early morning after a restless night's sleep.
We found him again in the late afternoon, but Stan and Marvin had me in the perfect position. The .270 spoke, and we were all smiles.
Back at camp, Marvin taped him at 212 4/8" Green B+C. It was worth the wait.
